Role Overview
This is a sales-focused role responsible for identifying, approaching and converting new customers for our freight business. The role is centred on new business development, relationship building and account growth.
The successful candidate will act as the first commercial point of contact for prospects and customers, understand their freight requirements, promote suitable solutions, and liaise internally to ensure enquiries, quotations and customer requirements are passed to the appropriate team members accurately and promptly.
This role is on the basis of remote freelance basis and suited to someone who is commercially minded, confident on the phone with fluent English speaking, organised, self-motivated and comfortable working remotely while maintaining regular communication with the management and operations team.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
· Proactively identify and contact potential customers via phone, email and other appropriate channels, with a strong emphasis on outbound phone calls.
· Build, maintain and progress a pipeline of new business opportunities.
· Research potential customers and identify suitable prospects within the UK freight market, but focused on international freight to / from the UK.
· Understand customer requirements and identify appropriate freight solutions to discuss with the internal team.
· Promote the company’s freight services in a clear, professional and commercially focused manner.
· Convert leads and opportunities into active, revenue-generating customers.
· Maintain regular communication with prospects and customers to develop trust and encourage repeat business.
· Follow up quotations, enquiries and sales opportunities in a timely and structured way.
Customer Liaison & Internal Coordination
· Act as a key point of contact for customers during the sales and enquiry stage.
· Gather accurate information from customers regarding shipment requirements, including origin, destination, goods details, timing and service expectations.
· Liaise with the management team and freight/operations team to obtain pricing, service options and any required technical or operational input.
· Pass confirmed customer requirements to the relevant internal team for shipment booking, operational handling and documentation.
· Maintain clear communication with customers and the internal team to ensure expectations, pricing and service requirements are understood.
· Support the handover of new customers to the operational team, ensuring key account details and customer preferences are recorded.
· Escalate customer queries, service concerns or special requirements to the appropriate team member promptly.
General Duties
· Keep internal sales systems, CRM records, customer notes and pipeline information accurate and up to date.
· Prepare and maintain basic sales activity records, including calls, follow-ups, prospects, quotations and converted accounts.
· Work in line with company procedures, pricing guidance and communication standards.
· Contribute ideas to improve sales processes, customer communication and lead conversion.
· Communicate effectively with the wider team and provide regular updates on sales activity, opportunities and customer feedback.
Skills & Experience
· Previous sales, freight forwarding, logistics or transport industry experience is preferred, particularly with knowledge of the UK freight market; however, guidance will be provided.
· Strong sales, prospecting and negotiation skills.
· Confident communicator, particularly over the phone.
· Clear, fluent English speaking and written communication skills.
· Ability to ask the right questions and accurately capture customer requirements.
· Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
· Able to manage multiple prospects, follow-ups and sales opportunities at the same time.
· Self-motivated and comfortable working remotely.
· Competent with email, online systems and basic CRM or sales tracking tools.
