Freelancing Business Development Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Freelancing Business Development Manager with a strong track record of winning projects on Upwork and other freelancing platforms. The primary responsibility of this role is high-quality proposal bidding, client communication,
Closing MQLs (Marketing Qualified Leads).
The candidate must have deep expertise in Upwork bidding strategies, proposal optimization, client engagement, and deal closing, with a proven ability to consistently generate qualified leads and convert them into long-term projects.
Key Responsibilities
Upwork & Freelancing Platform Management
- Actively manage and operate Upwork and other freelancing platforms to generate high-quality leads.
- Identify and analyze relevant job postings aligned with company services.
- Prepare and submit high-converting customized proposals.
- Maintain a strong bid-to-interview and interview-to-close ratio.
Client Communication & Deal Closing
- Conduct discovery calls and understand client requirements, budgets, and timelines.
- Present company capabilities and position services effectively.
- Negotiate scope, pricing, and timelines.
- Successfully close MQL (Marketing Qualified Leads) and convert them into signed projects.
Pipeline & Lead Management
- Maintain an organized lead pipeline from proposal to deal closure.
- Track conversations, follow-ups, and client status.
- Ensure quick response time to client messages to maintain engagement.
Coordination With Internal Teams
- Collaborate with technical teams and project managers for accurate project estimation.
- Clearly document client requirements before project handover.
- Ensure smooth transition from sales to delivery.
Relationship Building
- Build long-term relationships with Upwork clients.
- Identify opportunities for repeat business and long-term contracts.
- Maintain high client satisfaction during the pre-sales phase.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 4+ years experience in freelancing business development
- Proven track record of Closing MQLs on Upwork
- Demonstrated ability to close international clients
- Experience handling high-value projects and long-term contracts
