Role Overview
As a Freelance Proofreader, you will be responsible for reviewing and correcting written content for grammar, punctuation, spelling, formatting, sentence structure, consistency, and brand tone. You will collaborate with writers, editors, and project managers to ensure final content is error-free and aligns with brand guidelines.
This is a remote, project-based role.
Key Responsibilities
- Proofread a variety of content including blogs, articles, web copy, social media posts, emails, ad copies, reports, and presentations.
- Identify and correct grammatical, spelling, punctuation, and typographical errors.
- Ensure consistency in tone, style, tense, and formatting throughout documents.
- Fact-check names, dates, references, and data when required.
- Maintain brand writing guidelines across all content.
- Provide clear, concise feedback to writers and editors.
- Work with tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
- Track revisions and improvements in a structured format (Google Docs, Word, Notion, etc.).
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Proofreader, Editor, or related writing role.
- Exceptional command of English grammar and usage.
- Strong attention to detail — ability to catch even the smallest errors.
- Familiarity with style guides (AP Style, Chicago Manual of Style, etc.) is a plus.
- Excellent time management and ability to work with multiple deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to provide constructive feedback.
- Experience with proofreading tools such as Grammarly, Hemingway, etc. (optional but helpful).
- Comfort working in a remote, freelance setup.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field.
- Experience proofreading for marketing, tech, or startup environments.
- Ability to adapt writing rules for multicultural/global audiences.
