Role Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Freelance Senior Engineer with deep expertise in search technologies and distributed systems to support a critical search platform redesign initiative.
If you have hands-on experience handling large-scale search systems (1B+ documents) and enjoy solving performance challenges, this role is for you!
Key Responsibilities
- Redesign and optimize document search indexing to improve search latency and performance
- Work on large-scale search systems (1B+ documents)
- Tune and optimize search queries, indexing pipelines, and cluster performance
- Implement and manage sharding, replication, and distributed coordination
- Analyze system bottlenecks and drive performance improvements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable solutions
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Solr or OpenSearch / Elasticsearch
- Deep understanding of Lucene internals
- Experience working with large-scale distributed systems
- Expertise in:
- Sharding & replication strategies
- Index design & optimization
- Query performance tuning
- Proficiency in Java
- Proven experience improving search latency and system scalability
Tech Stack
- Java

Good to Have
- Experience migrating from Solr → OpenSearch / Elasticsearch
- Knowledge of cluster tuning and monitoring tools
