Job Description: Senior DevOps Architect (Consultant)Objective:
Evaluate our current manual EC2 infrastructure and architect a transition to a container-based, Git-managed deployment environment. The goal is to implement modern CI/CD and automation while retaining granular command-line access for deep-dive maintenance.
Scope of Work- Audit & Strategy: Review the current EC2 setup and recommend the right path (e.g., ECS on EC2 vs. EKS vs. Managed Docker) that balances automation with CLI control.
- Containerization: Standardize our application environments into optimized Docker images.
- CI/CD Pipeline: Design and implement a robust Git-based pipeline (GitHub Actions/GitLab) for automated testing and zero-downtime deployments.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Move manual configurations into version-controlled scripts (Terraform/Ansible) to eliminate "snowflake" servers.
- Knowledge Transfer: Document the new architecture and provide a "cheat sheet" for CLI-based troubleshooting in the new environment.
Ideal Candidate Profile- Experience: 8+ years in Systems Architecture or DevOps. You must have handled production environments scaling to millions of concurrent users.
- Cloud Mastery: Deep expertise in AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS). You should know when to use managed services and when to stick to raw instances.
- The "Linux Guru" Mindset: You are comfortable with kernel tuning, shell scripting (Bash/Python), and low-level debugging. You understand why a CTO still wants SSH access.
- Tooling: Proficient in Docker, Terraform/CloudFormation, and modern GitOps workflows.
- Communication: Ability to articulate the pros/cons of different migration paths (e.g., ECS vs. EKS) to help us make the final decision.
Crisp Requirements- Must have executed at least two successful EC2-to-Container migrations for high-traffic apps.
- Must demonstrate how to enable secure, auditable terminal access (e.g., AWS SSM/ECS Exec) in a containerized world.
- Must be able to work as a strategic consultant first, and an implementer second.
