Role Description The Freelance Chess Tutor for a grade 4 student will deliver live online chess lessons focused on building fundamental understanding, strategy, and confidence. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning age-appropriate lesson plans, teaching core concepts (piece movement, basic tactics, opening principles), guiding students through practice games, and providing constructive feedback after each session. The tutor will regularly assess the student’s progress, adjust teaching methods accordingly, and communicate updates to the parent or guardian. This is a full-time remote role, requiring consistent availability, reliable online presence, and the ability to maintain an engaging and supportive learning environment.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of chess fundamentals and strategy, with the ability to teach openings, tactics, endgames, and basic tournament rules to young learners.
- Experience working with elementary school–age children, using clear, patient, and encouraging communication suited to grade 4 learners.
- Ability to design structured yet fun lesson plans, incorporating puzzles, practice games, and interactive exercises.
- Proficiency with online teaching tools and video conferencing platforms, and access to reliable internet and a suitable teaching setup.
- Strong organizational skills, including scheduling lessons, tracking progress, and maintaining regular communication with parents or guardians.
- Prior tutoring or teaching experience in chess or related educational activities; formal chess ratings or certifications are an advantage.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and motivating learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds.
