Fractional IoT & Industrial AI Expert (Consultant Role)

About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced IoT and Industrial AI expert to help design and guide the implementation of smart manufacturing initiatives across our plants. This role will work closely with leadership, engineering teams, and data teams to build IoT-enabled production intelligence and predictive maintenance systems.
This is a fractional consulting role suited for someone who enjoys building practical Industry 4.0 systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design the IoT architecture roadmap for manufacturing operations.
- Identify use cases such as:
- Predictive maintenance
- Machine health monitoring
- Energy consumption analytics
- Production efficiency tracking
- Guide selection of IoT hardware, sensors, and gateways.
- Lead the implementation of machine data acquisition systems.
- Integrate IoT data with analytics platforms (Power BI / Python / AI models).
- Mentor and guide internal IoT engineers.
- Ensure secure device communication and data pipelines.
- Work with plant teams to pilot and scale Industry 4.0 projects.
Required Experience
- 8+ years of experience in Industrial IoT / Industry 4.0 / Smart Manufacturing
- Strong experience with:
- IoT architectures
- Edge computing
- Sensor networks
- Machine data acquisition
- Familiarity with manufacturing environments
- Experience working with protocols like MQTT, Modbus, OPC-UA
- Understanding of AI / ML applications in industrial data
Preferred Skills
- Experience with predictive maintenance models
- Knowledge of PLC systems and industrial automation
- Experience integrating with Power BI / Python / cloud platforms
- Exposure to steel, engineering, manufacturing industries
