Role: Founding Principal Engineer
Work Arrangement: Work from Home
Location: India
Schedule: Night shift
Job description:
What you'll build in year one
This role is broad by design. You'll be expected to architect and personally deliver across:
- Client-facing web applications and digital products for Mowery & Schoenfeld customers and teams
- Internal web tools and operational systems that power the business
- AI model training, fine-tuning, and deployment pipelines
- AI tools and agentic systems integrated into workflows
- Data migration, cleansing, and transformation projects
- Third-party and internal service integrations and APIs
- System architecture — designing scalable, secure, maintainable foundations
Technical requirements
We expect breadth across the stack, with depth in the areas most critical to our early build. The following represents the core technical profile we're hiring for.
Frontend
- React and Next.js as the primary framework — including server-side rendering, app router, and performance optimization
- TypeScript — strong typing, interfaces, generics, and type-safe API design
- Modern CSS, Tailwind, and component library experience (e.g. shadcn/ui, Radix)
Backend & APIs
- Node.js, Python, or equivalent server-side language at production scale
- RESTful and GraphQL API design, documentation, and versioning
- Authentication, authorisation, and session management (OAuth2, OIDC, JWT)
- Microservices and event-driven architecture patterns
- Message queues and async processing (e.g. Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, Kafka)
Cloud & infrastructure (Azure)
- Azure platform depth — App Service, Azure Functions, AKS, Container Apps, Static Web Apps
- Azure AI Services — Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, AI Foundry, ML pipelines
- Azure data services — Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Blob Storage, Data Lake, Synapse
- Azure DevOps — pipelines, repos, boards, and release management
- Infrastructure as Code — Bicep, Terraform, or ARM templates
- Networking, VNet, private endpoints, API Management (APIM), and Front Door
- Azure Entra ID (Active Directory), RBAC, managed identities, and Key Vault
AI & machine learning
- LLM integration — prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, function calling, and context management
- AI agent design — orchestration frameworks (e.g. LangChain, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen)
- Model training and fine-tuning — experience with Azure ML, Hugging Face, or equivalent
- Vector databases and embeddings (e.g. Azure AI Search, Pinecone, pgvector)
- Evaluation, monitoring, and responsible deployment of AI systems
- Active use of AI coding tools — Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent
Data & integrations
- Data modelling, migration strategy, and ETL/ELT pipeline design
- SQL and NoSQL databases — schema design, query optimisation, indexing
- Enterprise integration patterns — webhooks, pub/sub, API gateways, event sourcing
- Experience integrating SaaS platforms, CRMs, ERPs, and third-party APIs
- Experience with BI tools like PowerBI, Tableau, etc.
Architecture & engineering practice
- System architecture design — scalable, secure, maintainable from day one
- Security by design — OWASP principles, threat modelling, zero-trust patterns
- CI/CD pipelines, automated testing (unit, integration, e2e), and code quality standards
- Containerisation — Docker, Kubernetes, and orchestration at scale
- Monitoring, observability, and incident management (e.g. Azure Monitor, Application Insights)
- Git, code review practices, branching strategies, and collaborative development workflows
Non-negotiable skills & requirements:
- Experience. 5+ years of professional software development, with a track record of shipping and maintaining production systems. Background in or strong familiarity with the CPA, accounting, or financial services industry — understanding of the workflows, compliance demands, and client expectations in a professional services firm is a significant advantage
- Dual background. Enterprise and startup background — you understand scale, compliance, and robustness, and you've also built scrappily and shipped fast
- Entrepreneurial. An entrepreneurial mindset — you take initiative, move with purpose, and think about the product and business, not just the code
- Build quality. A security-first and scalability-first approach — you build things that grow well and don't cut corners on trust or reliability
- Range. The ability to architect at a high level and then implement at a low level — often in the same week
- Communication. Clear, direct communication — with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike
Perks & Benefits:
- Comprehensive health and life insurance on your 16th day of employment, covering 1 free dependent on the 16th day of employment
- Flexible leave credits which may be used for vacation, emergency and sick leaves
- Quarterly perks boxes for WFH staff, offering groceries and snacks to keep you fueled
- Superb and exciting Mid-Year Parties – with items to give away and cash prizes!
- Endless opportunities for career advancement
- Annual Performance Review with Salary Increase
- We set you up for success with a company-provided PC/Laptop and fiber internet connection
- Tech-on-wheels Support
- Participate and join our CS Social Clubs and Special Interest Groups to connect with colleagues
- International career growth and connections
- Unlimited cash incentives for hired referrals
- Mental Wellness Employee Assistance program through Lifeworks
- In-house psychiatrist available to support employees' well-being
- Become part of the Employee Share Units program
- Cloudstaff Dream Points - To be used for bidding useful items like appliances, kitchenettes etc.
