The OpportunityCounterfeiting is one of the largest shadow economies on the planet. Global trade in counterfeit goods exceeded $1 trillion in 2023 and is projected to reach $1.79 trillion by 2030 — growing 3.6x faster than the global economy. In India alone, counterfeiting costs the economy over $58 billion annually, with 25–30% of FMCG products and up to 20% of pharmaceutical products estimated to be counterfeit.

The anti-counterfeit packaging market alone is valued at over $200 billion globally and growing at 9–12% CAGR. Pharma, FMCG, luxury goods, government documents, auto parts — the surface area for this technology is enormous. Yet most existing solutions rely on holograms and serialized codes that sophisticated counterfeiters have learned to replicate.
GGSQR’s patented Secure QR Code technology is fundamentally different. Built on research from IIT, it uses advanced image processing and signal-level features to create QR codes that are physically impossible to duplicate — even with high-resolution scanners and printers. This isn’t an incremental improvement. This is a generational leap in anti-counterfeiting. We already have deployments with government bodies, and we’re now ready to scale.
About the RoleThis is not a typical “Software Engineer” position. You will be the engineering backbone of GGSQR — the person who takes a working proof-of-concept built by PhD researchers and turns it into a reliable, scalable, production system that serves real customers.
You will work directly with IIT researchers (PhDs in image processing, signal processing, and QR code security), understand their algorithms at a deep level, and build the production infrastructure around them. You’ll own the entire technical stack, from the inference pipeline that validates secure QR codes to the cloud infrastructure that serves it, to the APIs and interfaces that customers interact with.
We need someone who is equal parts builder and problem-solver. Someone who doesn’t wait for a spec to be handed to them but goes and figures out what needs to be built, builds it, ships it, and iterates.
What You’ll Do- Take the existing research prototype and architect a production-grade system from scratch, including backend services, APIs, deployment pipelines, monitoring, the works
- Build and optimise ML inference pipelines for QR code image analysis and validation (image capture → preprocessing → model inference → result)
- Own the cloud infrastructure — set up and manage deployments on AWS/GCP, handle scaling, CI/CD, observability, and cost optimisation
- Collaborate closely with IIT researchers to understand algorithms at a deep level and translate research code into production-quality, maintainable software
- Make product decisions — you’ll have a seat at the table on what to build, how to build it, and what to prioritise. This isn’t a “ticket-taker” role
- Build integrations for government and enterprise clients — APIs, SDKs, and documentation
- Establish engineering best practices, testing infrastructure, and development workflows as the founding member of the engineering team
What You BringMust-Have- 3–7 years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of shipping real products
- Strong proficiency in Python — this is the primary language of the research codebase and the production stack
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) — you’ve deployed, scaled, and maintained production services, not just spun up a free-tier instance
- DevOps chops — CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), infrastructure-as-code, monitoring and alerting
- Previous startup experience — you know what it means to wear multiple hats, move fast, and ship with imperfect information
- Product mindset — you think about the “why” behind what you’re building, not just the “how”. You’ve pushed back on requirements, suggested better approaches, and cared about the end-user experience
- Comfort working with researchers and translating academic/research code into production systems
Strong Plus- Experience with image processing libraries — OpenCV, PIL/Pillow, or similar. Ability to work with image pipelines (capture, preprocessing, augmentation, analysis)
- Experience with ML inference in production — model serving, optimisation, latency tuning, batch vs. real-time inference (PyTorch, ONNX, TensorRT, or similar)
- Polyglot engineering — comfort picking up Go, Rust, TypeScript, or whatever the problem demands
- Experience building APIs and SDKs for external developers or enterprise integrations
- Familiarity with security/cryptography concepts — helpful given the nature of the product
What We Offer- Competitive Compensation — pay that reflects the calibre of engineer we’re looking for
- Equity (ESOP) — meaningful equity with a 1-year cliff and standard 4-year vesting. You’re not joining as employee #500 at a Series C. You’re building the foundation. The equity reflects that
- Fully Remote — work from anywhere in India. We care about output, not seat time
- Accelerated Growth — you’ll work with patented technology at the intersection of image processing, cryptography, and ML, alongside PhDs from IIT. The technical depth here is real
- World-Class Collaborators — researchers from IITs, advisors from big tech and government. You’ll be surrounded by people who are genuinely world-class in their domains
- True Ownership — you’re not implementing someone else’s vision. You’ll own the product end-to-end, make architectural decisions, and shape the technical direction of the company
- Real Traction — our technology is already deployed with government bodies. You’re not building a science project — you’re scaling something that’s already proven in the field
Who You AreYou’re the kind of engineer who gets restless when things aren’t moving fast enough. You’ve built systems from scratch before, and you know the difference between research code and production code. You’re not intimidated by PhDs; you respect their domain expertise, but you know that shipping a product requires a completely different skillset, and that’s yours.
You don’t need hand-holding. You figure things out. When you hit a wall, you go around it, over it, or through it. You’ve worked in startups before, and you know the chaos is the feature, not the bug.
You care about building something real — not just collecting a paycheck at a big company. You want to look back in 3 years and say, “I built that.”
How to ApplySend us your resume along with a brief note on: (a) something you built from scratch that you’re proud of, and (b) why this role excites you. Links to GitHub, technical blogs, or side projects are a strong plus.
We move fast. If there’s a mutual fit, expect to go from application to offer within 2 weeks.
