Job details:
Founding Android Engineer (Remote — India)
Company: minie.ai — Hey Minie, a voice-first AI companion for kids aged 3–8
Type: 3-month contract → full-time + ESOPs
Compensation: ₹30,000–40,000/month cash + meaningful ESOPs on conversion. We're early-stage and honest about it: below-market cash, real equity, real ownership.
About the role
Hey Minie is active, voice-led screen time for kids — the child talks, sings, and imagines; Minie responds. Under the hood that means real-time voice streaming, speech pipelines in multiple Indian languages, and an animated companion — genuinely hard, interesting mobile engineering.
Our Android app is currently built and run by a co-founder. We're hiring the person who takes it over completely. You'll get a structured handover, then the app is yours: features, performance, releases, stability across the messy reality of Indian Android devices. You'll work directly with the founders — no layers, no ticket queue.
This is a founding-engineer seat, not a junior role with training wheels. It fits you if you're either an exceptional early-career engineer who has already shipped 2–3 real Android apps, or an experienced developer who wants equity upside and end-to-end ownership instead of a big-company badge.
What you'll own
• The entire Android app — architecture, features, releases, Play Store.
• Real-time voice interaction (audio streaming, WebRTC/LiveKit).
• Turning designs into smooth, kid-friendly screens.
• Performance and stability across low-end and mid-range devices.
• API integration with our backend, push notifications, analytics.
What we need to see
• 2–3 Android apps you've actually shipped — Play Store links or public GitHub repos are required with your application.
• Strong Kotlin; comfortable with Jetpack, coroutines, and modern Android architecture (MVVM/Compose).
• Ability to run independently in a remote setup — you ask sharp questions, then you go build.
• Good written and verbal English.
Nice to have
• Real-time audio/video experience (WebRTC, LiveKit, ExoPlayer, pipecat).
• WebView-heavy or animation-heavy app experience.
• Firebase (FCM, Crashlytics).
How it works
• 3-month paid contract as a mutual trial.
• Converts to full-time with an ESOP grant based on performance.
• Fully remote (India), flexible hours, direct access to founders.
• Your work ships to real kids and parents within days, not quarters.
How to apply: Send your Play Store links / GitHub + 3–4 lines on the most interesting technical problem you solved in an app you shipped. No cover letter needed.
