Estate & Farm Steward

Schedule: Full Time (Split Role: ~50% Estate / ~50% Farm)

About the Role

We’re looking for someone highly capable and self-directed to take on the day-to-day care of two adjacent properties in the Capital Region: a private family estate and Forts Ferry Farm.

This role requires excellent communication skills, strong practical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently. You will be responsible for noticing what needs attention, addressing it, and keeping both properties running without requiring constant direction.

This is a role for someone who takes pride in doing things properly and follows through.

Scope of Work

Estate (Approx. 50%)

  • Maintain a private residence and surrounding property to a consistently high standard
  • Conduct regular inspections and address issues before they become problems
  • Oversee general upkeep, organization, and seasonal transitions
  • Ensure systems, structures, and grounds remain functional and well maintained

Farm (Approx. 50%)

Working with the Forts Ferry Farm team:

  • Support ongoing farm projects, repairs, and infrastructure
  • Maintain buildings, fencing, equipment, and systems
  • Assist with seasonal work and shifting operational needs
  • Contribute reliably to both planned and unplanned work

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform general repairs (carpentry, light electrical, plumbing, mechanical)
  • Take ownership of small projects from start to finish
  • Diagnose issues and implement effective, lasting solutions

Contractors & Oversight

  • Engage and manage contractors when appropriate
  • Ensure work is completed correctly and to standard
  • Maintain clear communication and accountability

Organization

  • Keep tools, materials, and workspaces in order
  • Track maintenance and ongoing project needs
  • Maintain straightforward systems that support the work

Response & Problem Solving

  • Address urgent issues promptly and calmly
  • Make sound decisions in real time
  • Prioritize long-term solutions over temporary fixes

Communication

  • Provide clear, concise updates
  • Raise issues early
  • Follow through without reminders

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in property, estate, farm, or facilities work
  • Strong working knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repair
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Comfortable handling a wide range of physical tasks
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs and work in all weather conditions\

What Matters

  • You notice things before they’re pointed out
  • You complete work without needing to be chased
  • You keep spaces functional, orderly, and well cared for
  • You are steady, practical, and reliable

This role depends on trust. Once established, you will be given the space to do your job.
