The LPN assists a Registered Nurse (RN) and oversees the Certified Nursing Assistant(s) (CNA) to carry out care plans and maintain patient comfort and well-being. LPNs take on a direct role in providing personal care to those in their charge, often assisting with all areas of the patient’s daily living needs.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Provides direct nursing care to patients on the unit, reporting concerns, data, and abnormal findings to the RN.
- Performs specific tasks and treatments as directed by the RN.
- Documents care provided in the patient's electronic medical record.
- Collaborates with members of the care team to provide safe, quality patient care.
- Participates in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications (under the supervision of a physician and registered nurse).
- Interviews patient about current problems, medications, and allergies and reviews medical record for pertinent previous and current information.
- Communicates changes in patient behavior or health status to nurses, providers, and/or caregivers.
- Assists patient with eating, dressing, bathing, while obtaining data such as vital signs.
- Assists preparing patients for transfer or discharge.
Requirements of this position include:
- One year of healthcare experience preferred
- Able to effectively communicate with care team, patient, and family members
- Current State of Wisconsin LPN license; BLS within 6 months of hire required
