Senior Mining Engineer

The Senior Engineer: Open Pit Mining is responsible for a range of activities, including dewatering, geotechnical analysis, environmental considerations and project considerations. In this role, you will have involvement in day-to-day decisions from initial pit designs to pit closures, rehabilitation activities and involvement in reducing mining costs through detailed budgeting and financial analysis.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Superintendent Technical Support is offered on an 8:6 roster, either on a FIFO ex Perth basis, or DIDO for local employees.

Duties include:

• Short, medium and long term mine planning activities.
• Examining mining methods and equipment to improve performance.
• Developing and improving systems and processes associated with open-pit mining.
• Provide recommendations and implement mine design and optimisation services.
• Supervision of Mining Engineers and other technical staff
• Ensuring Mine Safety Standards

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering
• Quarry Manager qualification, or ability to attain QM qualification
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in mine engineering, with at least 5 years' experience in open cut mining.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience working in gold mining.
• Exposure to technically challenging operations including variable ore bodies and difficult geotechnical ground conditions.
• Experience in mine planning, pit design and geological monitoring and assessment.
• Budgeting and forecast skills.
• Proven ability to meet mining targets whilst focusing on safety standards, operational efficiencies, productivity and cost effectiveness.
• Competent in mine design packages, particularly Vulcan and Spry
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Attention to detail
• High level written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and organisational skills
• Valid WA driver's licence
