Summary of Function
The Health Aide Technician supports the daily operations of the school health office by assisting
with routine health-related tasks, student monitoring, clerical duties, student screenings, and first
aid. The Health Aide Technician assists in the response to student health concerns and
emergencies in the school setting, in accordance with Arizona statutes, district policies, written
health workflow procedures, and the Arizona Emergency Guidelines for Schools (Redbook). This
position works under school administrative supervision and in coordination with a supervising
nurse, performing duties within the scope of assigned training and authorization. Health Aide
Technicians do not perform independent clinical judgment, nursing assessments, or medical
decision-making.
Qualifications
Qualifications include
● High School Diploma or GED - require; bachelor's degree - preferred
● Certified/Licensed Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician

● AZ Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
o Required within first 30 days of employment
● CPR/First Aid Certification - required upon hire and maintained during employment
● Hearing/Vision Certification - required within first 30 days of employment
● Experience working with various socioeconomic groups
● Bilingual in either Spanish or Diné’ preferred
Duties and responsibilities
Student Health Support

1. Provide basic first aid and comfort care for minor injuries and illnesses (e.g., cuts, scrapes,
headaches, rest periods) in accordance with established procedures and the Arizona
Emergency Guidelines for Schools (Redbook).
2. Assist students who visit the health office for routine care and monitoring.
3. Observe students for changes in condition and report concerns through established school
communication procedures.
4. Support students with documented health needs as outlined in school health plans or
written instructions from healthcare providers.
5. Respond to student health concerns and emergency situations by following district
protocols and the Arizona Emergency Guidelines for Schools (Redbook), including
initiating appropriate emergency response procedures and seeking assistance from the
administration, supervising nurse, or emergency medical services as indicated.
Medication & Treatment Assistance (as authorized)
1. Assist with medication administration and health-related procedures as authorized by
district policy, parent/guardian consent, and written medical orders, and only after
completion of required training. In accordance with district policy, an administrator may
designate school staff to administer medication, and such duties are performed only when
formally assigned and in coordination with established delegation procedures.
2. Follow established protocols for the safe handling, storage, and documentation of
medications and treatments.
3. Maintain accurate and timely records of medications administered and care provided.
Health Office Operations
1. Maintain a clean, organized, and functional health office.
2. Perform routine health screenings (e.g., vision or hearing) as trained and scheduled by the
school or district.
3. Support emergency preparedness and response procedures, including basic first aid and
student supervision during health-related incidents.
4. Communicate relevant health information to appropriate school staff, site administrator
and supervising nurse while maintaining student confidentiality.
Clerical & Recordkeeping Duties
1. Document all student visits, care provided, screenings performed, and communications in
student electronic health records.
2. Assist with data entry, filing, and management of health supplies and equipment.
3. Support communication with parents/guardians in accordance with district procedures
and administrative direction.

Supervision and Direction
1. Works under school administrative supervision and follows established workflow
procedures, written protocols, and training requirements.
2. Performs only duties within scope of practice and after appropriate training has been
completed as well as authorized by district policies.
Working conditions
Indoor office environment and outdoor work environment. Manages all job duties with the
mobility, agility, dexterity, and focused observation it takes to meet standards of performance.
Moderate to extreme environmental conditions and noise levels. Prolonged periods of standing.
Exposure to fumes, chemicals and gasses. Must be able to handle stressful situations calmly and
with consideration of other persons.
Physical requirements
Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion and movement is required to
perform the aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically
demanding tasks. Work involves sitting and moving for extended periods of time, moving from one
location to another, and reaching, bending, holding, and grasping objects. Verbal communication
ability is required.
Equipment, Aids, Tools, and Materials
Uses office equipment which includes but is not limited to: computers, video projectors,
whiteboards, and office or instructional equipment. FUSD recognizes the ever-changing
development of technology but expects all staff to keep abreast of changing technology
opportunities and use tools and devices provided to them. Health equipment and tools normally
associated with health positions; exposure to biohazard materials.
