Position Title: Assistant Cheer Coach
Department/Section: Coconino High School
Supervisor: Athletic Director
Compensation: Special Service Contract ($2,500.00 - $4,000.00 per season depending on level)
Summary
Coconino High School is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our cheerleading program as assistant coaches. The ideal candidates will support the head coach in developing a competitive cheerleading team, fostering a positive team environment, and promoting school spirit. This role offers an opportunity to mentor student-athletes, enhance their skills, and contribute to the overall success of the cheer program.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and executing practice sessions, including warm-ups, skill development, and choreography.
- Help coordinate and supervise team activities, including competitions, fundraisers, and community outreach events.
- Provide individual and group instruction to cheerleaders, focusing on technique, safety, and performance skills.
- Support the head coach in maintaining team discipline and promoting a positive, inclusive team culture.
- Assist with the selection and fitting of uniforms and cheerleading gear.
- Monitor student-athlete academic performance and promote a balance between academics and athletics.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team updates and expectations.
- Attend all practices, games, and competitions, providing support and guidance to the cheer team.
- Assist in the evaluation of team performance and provide constructive feedback to athletes.
- Stay current with cheerleading techniques, rules, and safety protocols.
Requirements
- Previous experience in cheerleading, coaching, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of cheerleading techniques, choreography, and safety practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with athletes, parents, and staff.
- Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes while fostering teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
- Must be able to pass a background check as required by the school district.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends for practices, games, and competitions.
- A commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive environment for all team members.
- AACCA (American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors) Safety Certified
- Complete the NFHS Concussion in Sports Course and NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course
- Pass the NFHS Cheer Safety Exam with a minimum score of 75%
