About the role

We're transforming corporate wellness, and we need passionate people to help us on our mission.

At Fitness Passport, we’re driven by a clear vision: empowering millions of employees to live healthier lives. Since 2006, we’ve partnered with the public sector, corporate employers, and leading fitness facilities across Australia and New Zealand to provide our members with access to a wide range of gyms and wellness resources.

As we enter an exciting new phase of growth, we’re executing an ambitious strategy—guided by a strong commitment to our members and to building a sustainable, scalable business for the long term.

Our ways of working are grounded in open-mindedness, collaboration, and teamwork. We believe the best solutions are shaped through diverse perspectives and shared ownership. We’re intentional about building systems that last—not just quick wins—and we support each other to grow, challenge ideas respectfully, and deliver meaningful outcomes together.

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll mentor engineers, contribute to technical decision-making, and collaborate to solve key challenges. You'll also play a pivotal role in shaping our technology roadmap, best practices, and engineering culture as we continue our digital transformation.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the architecture and development of scalable, secure, and maintainable systems across web, mobile, and APIs.
  • Pair-program with engineers, write high-quality code, and solve technical challenges to support team delivery.
  • Plan and manage engineering initiatives, balancing cost, delivery timelines, and scope to deliver impactful solutions.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, tools, and processes to improve efficiency, scalability, and security.
  • Champion CI/CD, automated testing, observability, infrastructure automation, and security best practices.
  • Work closely with Product, Design, and Marketing teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives.

About You

We’re looking for a thoughtful technical leader who thrives in collaborative, team-first environments—someone who values shared success over individual heroics. You’re passionate about building high-quality digital experiences that make a real impact on wellbeing, and you believe the best solutions come from listening, sharing ideas, and working together. You lead with empathy, welcome diverse perspectives, and know when to champion your viewpoint—and when to support the team’s direction even if it’s not your own.

You balance strong technical acumen with strategic thinking and hands-on involvement, and you're energized by the pace and growth of a fast-moving environment. Above all, you bring humility, pragmatism, and a commitment to helping both people and systems thrive.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has 6+ years of experience in software engineering, including 2+ years guiding and mentoring teams in an Agile setting.
  • Brings 2+ years of hands-on experience with our core technologies: TypeScript, NestJS, React, NextJS, and React Native.
  • Takes a pragmatic, outcome-oriented approach—balancing ideal solutions with business realities.
  • Adapts quickly, maintains composure in change, and enjoys contributing to a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
  • Understands modern system architecture and is fluent in current software development best practices.
  • Is passionate about helping engineers grow, creating space for collaboration, and nurturing a healthy engineering culture.
  • Comfortably shifts between hands-on coding and strategic leadership as needed.
  • Communicates clearly and respectfully with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
