# FinOps and Pricing Strategy Lead
## About the role
You will own the financial operations and pricing function end to end. That means building the systems that measure cost, margin, and revenue with precision, and designing the pricing and packaging the business takes to market. You will set up this function from the ground up and run it as the single source of truth for unit economics.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for someone who is equally comfortable in a cost model, a billing ledger, and a pricing debate.
## What you will own
- Unit economics as the source of truth. Build and maintain a living cost model that captures cost per unit across every input, and track gross margin by product line, plan, and customer.
- Cloud and vendor cost management. Monitor and forecast spend across cloud infrastructure and third-party APIs, set budgets and alerts, and drive continuous cost optimisation without compromising reliability.
- Pricing and packaging design. Define tiers, usage-based and prepaid models, credit and wallet logic, overage rates, and discount policy. Run competitive benchmarking and own the process for price changes.
- Billing operations. Ensure metering accuracy, clean invoicing, and correct reconciliation between usage, billing, and payment processors. Own the numbers when they need to tie out.
- Financial reporting. Build the dashboards that leadership runs the business on: margin, burn, cohort economics, and the inputs behind CAC and LTV.
- Forecasting and scenario modelling. Model the impact of pricing changes, volume shifts, vendor rate changes, and currency exposure before decisions are made.
- Vendor and contract commercials. Negotiate rates, manage committed spend and prepaid balances, and track float across providers.
- Cross-functional partnership. Work closely with product and engineering on billing architecture, metering instrumentation, and the data needed to bill accurately.
## What we are looking for
- Four or more years in FinOps, financial planning and analysis, revenue operations, pricing, or a closely related finance function, ideally in a SaaS, usage-based, or API business.
- Deep fluency in unit economics and gross margin for consumption or usage-based products. You can explain and defend every line of a cost model.
- Practical cloud cost management experience, including cloud billing consoles and FinOps practices, plus comfort reading and modelling third-party API cost structures.
- Advanced financial modelling in spreadsheets, working knowledge of SQL to pull usage and billing data directly, and experience building reporting in a BI tool.
- Solid grasp of billing systems: metering, invoicing, prepaid and wallet models, reconciliation, and how payment gateways settle.
- Pricing strategy fundamentals: packaging, price sensitivity, competitive positioning, and disciplined discounting.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a bias for building clean process where none exists yet.
- A sharp, numbers-first mindset. You do not present a figure you cannot substantiate.
## Nice to have
- FinOps certification or equivalent formal grounding.
- Exposure to Indian payment rails and compliance, including UPI, card networks, and GST invoicing.
- Multi-currency and foreign exchange exposure in a pricing or reporting context.
- Early-stage startup experience where you built the function, not just operated it.
## How you will be measured
- Accuracy and trustworthiness of the cost and margin model.
- Gross margin protection and improvement over time.
- Quality and speed of pricing decisions, backed by data.
- Clean reconciliation with no revenue leakage between usage, billing, and payments.
