About the Role
Seeking a high-caliber Senior Valuation Associate to join our Financial Valuation & Advisory practice in Gurgaon. This is a senior-level, client-facing role with full accountability for the delivery of business valuation, equity valuation, and financial reporting valuation engagements. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in valuation methodologies, hands-on experience with industry-standard databases, a thorough understanding of IFRS standards relevant to valuations, and the professional maturity to lead a team and manage client relationships independently. This role is NOT related to 409A or tax-purpose valuations.
Scope of Work
The incumbent will be an integral part of the Valuations team and will undertake assignments across the following service lines:
- Business Valuation and Equity Valuation
- Financial Reporting Valuations — Impairment Testing (IAS 36 / Ind AS 36) and Purchase Price Allocation / PPA (IFRS 3 / Ind AS 103)
- Private Equity Valuations including portfolio company fair value assessments
- Intangible Asset Valuations brands, customer relationships, technology, and other identifiable intangibles
- Complex financial instrument valuation — stock options, ESOPs, convertible instruments, and derivatives
- Valuation of early-stage and growth-stage companies for fund-raising, M&A, or regulatory purposes
Roles & Responsibilities
Engagement Management & Execution
- Lead client interviews and discovery sessions to gather data pertinent to the engagement; understand business context, industry dynamics, and financial performance
- Manage project economics, timelines, and engagement deliverable structures as per project manager expectations
- Research target industry, market trends, competitive landscape, and relevant economic developments to support valuation conclusions
- Assume a steering role in report generation - structure, draft, and review comprehensive valuation reports with clear methodology, analysis, and conclusions
- Conduct engagement review and ensure all deliverables are accurate, complete, and meet professional standards before submission
- Stay abreast of current business, economic, and regulatory developments relevant to the firm's and clients' businesses
Financial Modelling & Valuation
- Build and review robust financial valuation models using all core methodologies:
- Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) Analysis
- Comparable Company Multiples (CCM) / Trading Comps
- Precedent Transaction Analysis
- Market Approach & Asset-Based Approach
- Dividend Growth Model (Gordon Growth / multi-stage)
- Stock option models (Black-Scholes, Binomial)
- Complex financial instrument and option pricing models
- Intangible asset valuation models (MEEM, Relief from Royalty, etc.)
- Analyse and interpret financial statements in depth - P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow - for normalisation, working capital analysis, and capital structure assessment
- Analyse and review financial forecast models; stress-test assumptions through sensitivity and scenario analysis
- Apply knowledge of IFRS standards relevant to valuations — including IFRS 3, IAS 36, IFRS 9, IFRS 13, and related Ind AS equivalents
Research & Data Analytics
- Effectively use industry-standard databases including Capitaline, Crunchbase, Markables, and Capital IQ for peer benchmarking, transaction data, and market intelligence
- Conduct quality, focused research to collect and analyse sector data, financial forecasts, industry KPIs, and competitor information
- Screen comparable companies with analytical rigour — considering revenue, EBITDA, growth rates, margins, capital structure, and business model comparability
- Derive insights from research and client data to enrich valuation conclusions and engagement deliverables
- Use current technology and tools to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of services provided
Compliance & Professionalism
- Work independently with minimal need for guidance on standard engagements Comply with all organisational rules, policies, procedures, and professional standards
- Maintain documentation integrity, working paper standards, and audit trail for all engagements
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualifications
- CA (Chartered Accountant) — ICAI
- CFA Charterholder or CFA Level II / III candidate
- Equivalent professional qualification — candidates qualified by experience with a demonstrable track record in financial valuation will also be considered
- Additional certifications such as ICAI Registered Valuer (Securities or Financial Assets), CMA, or CVA are advantageous
Technical Skills & Experience
- 5–9 years of hands-on experience in business / financial valuation, transaction advisory, M&A, or investment banking
- Proven, independent experience in preparing end-to-end valuation reports across multiple engagement types — business valuation, PPA, impairment testing, PE valuations
- Deep understanding of IFRS / Ind AS valuation standards: IFRS 3, IAS 36, IFRS 9, IFRS 13 and their Indian equivalents
- Hands-on proficiency with databases: Capitaline, Capital IQ, Crunchbase, Markables, and similar platforms
- Advanced Excel skills — financial modelling, pivot tables, dynamic dashboards, macros / VBA preferred
- Strong MS Word and PowerPoint skills for preparing boardroom-quality reports and presentations
Leadership & Behavioural Competencies
- Demonstrated experience in managing and developing a team of 5+ professionals in a professional services environment
- Strong client-facing communication skills — confident, articulate, and capable of engaging with C-suite and senior stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English
- Self-driven and proactive; takes ownership of outcomes and continually seeks to improve results
