Build and Lead a Finance Function That Actually Matters
This is not a reporting role. This is not a back-office position. This is a high-ownership finance leadership opportunity where you will run the full accounts and compliance function — end to end — for a growing multi-entity organization based in Kampala, Uganda.

What You Will Own
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee all daily accounting operations, reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Manage supplier accounts, contractor settlements, and sub-ledger reconciliations
- Prepare accurate financial statements and management reports for senior leadership
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning across multiple business units
- Drive financial modelling and scenario analysis to support strategic decision-making
Taxation & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure full and timely compliance with Ugandan tax laws and statutory obligations including VAT, PAYE, corporate tax, and withholding tax
- Handle tax notices, objections, assessments, and regulatory correspondence
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and proactively advise senior management on implications
- Maintain clean statutory records across all entities
Audit & Regulatory Coordination
- Lead statutory audit preparation and coordinate directly with external auditors
- Prepare audit schedules, respond to audit queries, and ensure timely closure of findings
- Maintain financial records in accordance with IFRS and applicable regulatory standards
Payroll & HR Finance
- Supervise end-to-end payroll processing including expatriate and local staff payroll
- Manage staff advances, loans, and employee-related financial records
- Ensure payroll compliance with statutory deductions and employment regulations
Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Design, implement, and strengthen internal control frameworks across the finance function
- Identify financial and operational risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies
- Drive continuous process improvement and standardization across accounting procedures
Team Leadership
- Manage, train, and mentor the on-ground finance team
- Set performance standards and build team capability for long-term operational resilience
What We Are Looking For
Non-Negotiable Requirements
- Qualified CA / ACCA / CPA — applications without professional certification will not be reviewed
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- 3–6 years of post-qualification experience in financial accounting, taxation, compliance, and reporting
- Proficiency in Tally Prime or a comparable ERP system
- Advanced MS Excel skills including financial modelling, pivot tables, and reporting templates
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills
Preferred
- Prior experience working in Uganda, East Africa, or another emerging market context
- Familiarity with Ugandan tax regulations, URA compliance processes, and NSSF obligations
- Industry background in construction, infrastructure, real estate, or manufacturing
- Experience managing expatriate payroll and multi-entity consolidation
