TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist BUILDING/DEPARTMENT: Student Services
REPORTS TO: Building Principal or Designee BARGAINING UNIT: FEA
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Provide consultation services to school personnel and families regarding speech, language,
communication, and related educational needs.
● Conduct comprehensive speech-language assessments as part of multidisciplinary evaluation
teams for students with suspected disabilities.
● Interpret assessment results and contribute to eligibility determinations consistent with IDEA
and state regulations.
● Develop, implement, and monitor individualized therapy programs for eligible students aligned
to IEP goals.
● Provide individual, small group, and classroom-based speech and language interventions using
evidence-based practices.
● Participate in IEP, evaluation, and other student support team meetings.
● Maintain, interpret, and report ongoing student progress data, service logs, and required
documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal timelines.
● Complete Medicaid billing and related documentation for eligible students in compliance with
state and district procedures.
● Collaborate with IEP teams regarding assistive technology and augmentative/alternative
communication (AAC) needs.
● Support inclusive practices and provide strategies to general education staff to increase student
access to curriculum.
● Contribute to program development, school improvement efforts, and district initiatives.
● Maintains regular, predictable, and punctual attendance, as well a physical presence,
during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite.
● Performs the physical requirements of the position, work within the established working
conditions of the position.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
● Demonstrated successful experience in assessment and provision of direct speech-language
services in a school setting.
● Knowledge of IDEA eligibility criteria, special education regulations, policies, and procedural
safeguards.
● Ability to follow and maintain special education evaluation and IEP timelines.
● Strong collaboration and consultation skills with staff, parents, students, and community
agencies.

● Experience working effectively with multidisciplinary (MDT) and IEP teams.
● Knowledge of various standardized and informal assessment tools and testing protocols.
● Successful experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
● Knowledge of and experience implementing positive behavioral interventions and supports.
● Experience with school-based Medicaid claiming and documentation requirements.
● Leadership skills in program development and school improvement initiatives.
● Proficiency in relevant computer applications and special education data systems.
● Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES RELATED TO CULTURAL COMPETENCE AND

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
● Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
● Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA CCC-SLP).
EXPERIENCE:
● Successful experience with implementing Speech-Language Therapy program in a school
setting
● Demonstrated evidence of student management skills and individual positive behavioral support
plans.
● Experience working with MDT and IEP teams or other pediatric Speech-Language Therapy
settings.
CLEARANCES/CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
● Current fingerprints on file with OSPI with results satisfactory to the District.
● Sexual Misconduct Disclosure process completed with results satisfactory to the district
● Compliance with all district training requirements.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
● Valid and appropriate Washington State Licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
● Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Certification.
● ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).
CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING:
● As assigned by District or Supervisor
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand/walk and use
hands, for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee will occasionally sit, bend neck and
back, use hands for pushing/pulling, use hands for fine manipulation, squat, kneel, climb stairs/ladders,
reach overhead, lift overhead, knee stand, lift and carry, and push/pull. The employee is required to
constantly lift/carry less than 10 lbs and frequently will lift/carry a maximum of 20 lbs. The employee will
occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 55 lbs. This position requires pushing a maximum force of 35 lbs
and pulling up to a maximum force of 35 lbs. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a
two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly
works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is
occasionally required to work outdoors. The flooring is both carpet and linoleum. The employee is
required to properly wear any personal protection equipment supplied by the District. The employee is
exposed to infectious diseases carried by children.
