TITLE: Special Education Preschool Teacher DEPARTMENT/BUILDING: Early Learning Center
REPORTS TO: Building Principal or Designee BARGAINING UNIT: FEA
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for teaching preschool-aged children with disabilities. Students in Fife’s
developmental preschool include children who are eligible to receive special education services. The
disabilities of our preschool population range from Developmental Delays, Communication
Disorders, and Autism. The work is focused on student’s special education evaluation
recommendations from Child Find and IEP team decisions. Some of our students receive services in
an inclusionary setting through ECEAP. Service areas may include, but are not limited to, academics,
social-emotional/behavioral, cognitive, and communication.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified under
contract.
● Professionally interact with students, staff, and members of the public.
● Establish professional and ongoing contacts with students.
● Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, Board Policies, and
the Code of Professional Conduct.
● Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and
facilities.
● Serve as the case manager for assigned students, ensuring all special education services,
documentation and timelines are completed in compliance with federal, state and district
regulations; Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); Collect
and analyze student data to track progress toward IEP goals; Prepare legally compliant
documentation, progress reports, prior notices and required paperwork; Support inclusionary
practices; Facilitate and lead IEP meetings in collaboration with families and multidisciplinary
team members
● Use data from evaluations, standardized and non-standardized assessments to develop
instruction and goals for individual students
● Implement behavior interventions to support learning
● Instruct using techniques and strategies that promote successful transition to Kindergarten
● Implement modifications and accommodations for individual students based on their needs
● Utilize specialized materials, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology to enhance the
learning of students with a wide range of disabling conditions
● Use a variety of instructional strategies and methodologies to meet the individual needs of
students (TEACCH, PECS, Social Communication, Discrete Trial Training, etc.)
● Participate in Child Find screening sessions as needed

● Prepare and submit Child Outcome summary Forms (COSFs) throughout the year
● Effectively work with Paraprofessionals on the team
● Provide lesson plans for substitute teacher
● Demonstrate continued professional development.
● Participate in extra-curricular responsibilities as necessary.
● Expectations: The teacher communicates high expectations for student learning and evaluates
individual student progress regularly while maintaining records for report cards and/or parent
conferences.
● Instruction: Plan and deliver individualized, standards-based instruction aligned with IEP goals
and state standards; Adapt and modify curriculum to meet diverse academic, behavioral,
communication, and functional needs; Provide direct instruction in pre-academics, social skills,
daily living skills, and behavioral regulation; Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and
specialized interventions; Integrate assistive technology and specialized materials to support
student learning.
● Differentiation: The teacher acquires and uses specific knowledge about students’ cultural,
individual, intellectual, and social development and uses that knowledge to adjust their practice
by employing strategies that advance student learning.
● Content Knowledge: The teacher uses content area knowledge, learning standards, appropriate
pedagogy, and resources to design and deliver curricula and instruction to impact student
learning.
● Learning Environment: The teacher fosters and manages a safe and inclusive learning
environment that takes into account: physical, emotional, and intellectual well-being.
Encourages students to develop courtesy, self-control, respect, and responsibility. Establishes
clear parameters for student behavior in the classroom and disciplines students in a firm and
controlled manner.
● Assessment: The teacher uses multiple data elements (both formative and summative) to plan,
inform and adjust instruction and evaluate student learning.
● Families and Community: The teacher communicates and collaborates with students, families
and all educational stakeholders in an ethical and professional manner to promote student
learning.
● Professional Practice: The teacher participates collaboratively in the educational community to
improve instruction, advance the knowledge and practice of teaching as a profession, and
ultimately impact student learning. Maintain confidentiality of students’ records and information.
● Transition Focus: Student self-advocacy, independence and post-school outcomes.
● Perform such classroom teaching and other duties related to the school program as may be
assigned from time to time by the Principal or designee.
● Ability to effectively integrate technology in daily lessons and use multiple communication
systems such as assistive technology, electronic mail, computers, document readers, and
classroom technology.
● Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity desired.
● Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and work with students, parents, staff, and
community in an effective and positive manner

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelors’ degree required. Advanced degrees preferred
EXPERIENCE:
● Successful experience with implementing early learning curriculum
● Demonstrated evidence of classroom management skills and individual positive behavioral
support plans.
● Assisting students with personal care and/or adaptive needs as determined by individual
student needs
CLEARANCES/CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Current fingerprints on file with OSPI with results
satisfactory to the district
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
● Must hold a WA State Early Childhood or Elementary Teaching Certificate
● Must hold a current P-3 or P-21 Special Education Endorsement
CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING: Sexual Misconduct Disclosure process completed with results
satisfactory to the district
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand/walk and use
hands, for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee will occasionally sit, bend neck and

reach overhead, lift overhead, knee stand, lift and carry, and push/pull. The employee is required to
constantly lift/carry less than 10 lbs and frequently will lift/carry a maximum of 20 lbs. The employee will
occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 52 lbs. This position requires pushing a maximum force of 32 lbs
and pulling up to a maximum force of 31 lbs. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly

transfers. The employee is required to properly wear any personal protection equipment supplied by the
