Role Overview: Fashion Merchandiser
This is an ops-heavy role. We’re looking for an ultra-organized, systems-driven, sustainability-savvy Fashion Merchandiser to lead all things backend and production for CitizenEarth. This is a foundational role: you’ll build our supply chain from scratch, work with ethical manufacturers and conscious vendors, ensure sustainability standards, and bring process excellence to every corner of the brand.
You’ll be the one making sure that our bold design dreams are matched with operational muscle—ensuring that every CitizenEarth product is delivered ethically, efficiently, and beautifully. If you get excited about SOPs, sourcing, quality control, and turning vision into structure—read on.
What You’ll Do
1. Vendor & Supplier Management
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard sustainable vendors, manufacturers, packaging partners, and service providers.
- Build long-term relationships with supply chain partners that align with our values and quality standards.
- Negotiate fair terms, manage MOQs (minimum order quantities), and oversee contracts and agreements.
- Ensure all partners are ethically certified and comply with labour, safety, and environmental standards.
2. Sourcing, Manufacturing & Logistics
- Source sustainable fabrics, trims, packaging, and labelling materials in line with brand aesthetics.
- Set up and maintain ethical manufacturing processes across multiple categories (apparel, accessories, packaging, etc.).
- Manage production timelines, vendor communication, delivery planning, and inventory updates.
- Coordinate with delivery and logistics partners to ensure timely, traceable, and low-impact shipping.
3. End to end Production Management
· Coordinate the creation of first samples based on tech packs and design specifications.
· Review fit, construction, measurements, and finishing of samples and communicate required changes to pattern masters and sample units until final approval is achieved.
· Physical implementation of all design, fit, and quality corrections at the time of sampling and bulk production.
· Monitor daily output, maintain timelines, and solve production issues.
4. Quality Control & Sustainability Checks
- Develop and implement stringent quality control systems at every stage—from raw materials to final packaging.
- Conduct regular audits of vendors and factories to ensure sustainable, ethical, and high-quality production.
- Conduct in-line and final quality checks during and after production, ensuring consistency in sizing, stitching, fabric quality, and finishing.
- Ensure all CitizenEarth products meet our brand, aesthetic, and environmental standards.
- Track sustainability metrics across operations to ensure accountability and improvement.
5. Compliance, Packaging & Labelling Norms
- Ensure all products are compliant with Indian government norms for labelling: MRP, fabric composition, manufacturing date & place, size, care instructions, etc.
- Set up best-in-class packaging systems that are plastic-free, aesthetically aligned, and meet regulatory standards.
- Stay updated on local and international compliance laws for sustainable fashion products.
6. Sales & Market Analysis
· Analyse past sales data to forecast demand and plan future collections.
· Monitor market trends, competitor products, and customer preferences.
· Suggest improvements based on sales performance and feedback.
7. Inventory & Stock Management
· Monitor stock levels in the warehouse and plan replenishment based on sales performance and demand forecasting.
· Monitor replenishment and reduce stock-outs or overstock situations.
8. Website Fulfilment & Inventory Sync
- Coordinate backend workflows for website orders, returns, and inventory management.
- Build systems for order tracking, exchange processing, and customer feedback loops.
- Ensure smooth syncing of inventory between production, warehouse, and website.
9. SOPs, Process Building & Cross-Team Collaboration
- Develop detailed SOPs for every product category from raw material procurement to a finished, packaged product.
- Ensure each stage—from sketch to shipment—adheres to our ethical, sustainable, and aesthetic benchmarks.
- Collaborate closely with design, marketing, customer support, and content teams for seamless brand experience.
- Constantly iterate and improve internal systems for better speed, quality, and scalability.
10. Customer Service & Post-Purchase Experience
- Set up and manage customer service systems (chat, email, returns) in alignment with brand tone and values.
- Track customer issues, coordinate resolutions, and create learning loops to improve product/service.
- Own post-purchase delight through sustainable, thoughtful, and branded experiences.
What You Bring
- A few years of experience in operations, supply chain, or production— in fashion, lifestyle, or D2C brands.
- Deep understanding of sustainable sourcing, ethical production, vendor negotiations, and supply chain compliance.
- Experience with production planning, quality control, packaging development, and ecommerce logistics.
- Passion for organization, structure, optimization—and turning chaos into flow.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, can-do spirit.
- Proficiency in tools like Excel/Google Sheets, project management platforms (Notion, Trello, Airtable, etc.).
- Attention to detail, love for process documentation, and passion for ethical impact.
