ABOUT BULBUL
BulBul is a mass-premium Indian ethnic wear brand with its own manufacturing facility and 10+ years of production expertise. We design and produce salwar suits, kurta sets, co-ord sets, and fusion wear — selling across Myntra, Nykaa Fashion, AJIO, Amazon India, B2B wholesale, and our own D2C website (bulbulfashions.com). We are now scaling aggressively into offline retail through Shop-in-Shop partnerships and building a serious D2C brand.
This is not a corporate job. You will work directly with the founder in a fast-paced, high-output environment where decisions happen in hours, not weeks. If you need hand-holding, committee approvals, or a 9-to-5 rhythm — this is not for you.
THE ROLE
We need someone who can own the entire lifecycle of a product — from trend research and design to fabric sourcing, costing, sampling, production coordination, and marketplace listing. This is a dual role: half creative, half operational. You will be the bridge between what the market wants and what our factory produces.
DESIGN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Research trends across Indian ethnic wear — track what’s moving on Myntra, Instagram, Pinterest, competitor brands (Libas, W, Biba, Aurelia, Global Desi)
• Design salwar suits, kurta sets, co-ord sets, and fusion wear collections for each season and occasion cycle (Eid, Diwali, wedding season, festive, everyday)
• Create tech packs with complete specifications — sketches, colourways, fabric details, embroidery/print placements, measurement charts
• Develop mood boards and range plans for each collection drop
• Work directly with our in-house production team to translate designs into samples, review fit, and approve final production quality
• Maintain a design calendar aligned with marketplace listing deadlines and SIS retail requirements
MERCHANDISING RESPONSIBILITIES
• Source fabrics, trims, and embellishments — negotiate pricing, manage vendor relationships, track MOQs
• Build and maintain product cost sheets for every SKU — fabric cost, manufacturing cost, packaging, landed cost, margin analysis
• Plan assortments and size ratios based on sales data (we have detailed marketplace analytics — you will use them)
• Coordinate with the production floor on sampling timelines, bulk production schedules, and delivery deadlines
• Manage the product pipeline from concept to marketplace listing — ensure cataloging specs (images, descriptions, attributes) are marketplace-ready
• Track inventory, reorder triggers, and slow-moving stock — recommend markdowns or bundling strategies
• Support pricing decisions across channels: premium pricing for D2C/SIS retail vs. marketplace-specific MRP structures
MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS
• 3–7 years of experience
• in designing AND merchandising Indian ethnic wear — not Western wear, not accessories, not home textiles. Ethnic wear specifically.
• Strong understanding of Indian fabrics — cotton, rayon, viscose, chanderi, silk blends, georgette, etc. You should know what works for which price point and season.
• Hands-on experience with tech packs, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and garment costing
• Familiarity with marketplace requirements — Myntra cataloging, size charts, image specs, attribute mapping
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and/or CorelDRAW for design work
• You must be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment, not just a design studio
GOOD TO HAVE
• Experience with Myntra, Nykaa Fashion, or AJIO seller backends
• Understanding of retail visual merchandising (relevant for our SIS expansion)
• Exposure to D2C e-commerce and product photography direction
• Knowledge of embroidery techniques — machine embroidery, schiffli, sequence, threadwork
WHAT YOU GET
• Direct access to the founder — no layers, no politics, fast decision-making
• Ownership of the design and merchandising function from day one
• Exposure to multi-channel retail: marketplaces, D2C, B2B, and now offline SIS stores
• A manufacturing setup where your designs actually get produced — not just mood boards that sit in a folder
• Growth opportunity as BulBul scales — this role will evolve into a Head of Design & Merchandising position
COMPENSATION
Competitive salary based on experience and capability. We pay for output, not pedigree. If you’re good, you’ll know it from the offer.
