About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and creative Menswear Designer specializing in formal wear to join our dynamic team at Turtle Limited. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in menswear design, with a focus on formal attire, and a passion for staying ahead of fashion trends. This role involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including sales, buying, and production to ensure that designs meet market demands, quality standards, and brand aesthetics. The designer will be responsible for conceptualizing and creating innovative formal wear collections, selecting appropriate fabrics, trims, and accessories, and overseeing the development process from initial sketches to final samples. The candidate will also be expected to keep abreast of emerging fashion trends, competitor activities, and technological advancements in fabric and design to continuously enhance the brand’s offerings. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of formal menswear in India while working within a prestigious, heritage-rich organization.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 8-10 years of hands-on experience in menswear design, specifically within the formal wear segment. A degree in Fashion Design from a reputed institute such as NIFT is mandatory. The candidate should demonstrate a strong portfolio showcasing innovative formal menswear collections, a deep understanding of fabric and trim selection, and proficiency in hand sketching and computer-aided design (CAD) software. Excellent knowledge of current fashion trends, fabric sourcing, and garment construction is essential. Strong communication skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and a keen eye for detail are also required. Prior experience working with manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility and quality in bulk production will be considered a significant advantage.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with sales, buying, and production teams to develop designs that align with market trends, customer preferences, and brand positioning.
- Check and approve patterns, samples, and mass-produced garments to ensure quality, fit, and adherence to design specifications.
- Establish and maintain best-in-class design and merchandising processes within the formal wear category.
- Select fabrics, trims, styles, and accessories, including packaging, for development samples, ensuring consistency with the design brief.
- Consider technical guidelines from various departments to enhance product feasibility and streamline bulk production processes.
- Create visual concepts through hand sketches or computer-aided design software to communicate design ideas effectively.
- Work collaboratively with the product development team, forecasters, and other designers to develop collections that meet brand standards and market expectations.
- Stay updated on emerging fashion trends, fabric innovations, and competitor activities to ensure the brand remains at the forefront of formal menswear fashion.
- Participate in fabric sourcing, trend research, and supplier negotiations to ensure the best quality and cost-efficiency.
