About the role
Description
Major Duties/Functions/Responsibilities:
- Assemble food, dishes, utensils and supplies needed for timely meal service.
- Adhere to sanitation and safety procedures prescribed for the Seminary kitchen so that all local, state and federal sanitation and licensing requirements and standards are maintained.
- Prepare food to support family-style dining, and deliver meals from kitchen to classrooms at requested times.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils using dishwasher and approved sanitation methods.
- Return all items to their proper storage site, and maintain organization in kitchen and laundry areas.
- Order and pick up supplies as needed and according to established procedures.
- Receive deliveries from the catering company and milk supplier ensuring that proper items have been delivered.
- Clean and ready all the catering company’s kitchen pans, containers and carriers to be returned at the next day’s delivery.
- Assist with food and supply inventories.
- Complete routine maintenance of kitchen and equipment, including weekly cleaning and disposal of perishable foods and beverages in refrigerator.
- Maintain recycling system, ensuring all recyclable waste is disposed of properly. Take recycling to the curb on designated day and return empty bins to their storage location weekly.
- Ensure that center laundry is washed, dried, folded and returned to classrooms on an on-going basis.
- Work cooperatively with staff to provide coverage in classrooms as necessary.
- Greet and assist center visitors and callers in a professional and friendly manner.
- Record-Keeping and Monitoring:
- Check and receive daily meal slips from caterer delivery and collect in the “Meal Receipts Notebook”
- Check and receive weekly delivery slips from milk supplier and submit to Center director.
- Maintain record keeping and communication to support CACFP-Child Care Food Program sponsorship, daily and monthly, under the supervision of the Center Director, Health/Nutrition Specialist, and CACFP sponsor designee.
- Maintain documentation, as requested, of self-monitoring, such as food temperature checks, water temperature checks, and ongoing cleaning.
Requirements
Qualifications and Knowledge/Skills Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with at least 2 years relevant experience and the ability to relate well to young children
- Ability to work in a professional manner both independently and with others in a team environment to deliver quality services
- Good written and verbal communication skills necessary for frequent telephone and in-person contact with parents, vendors, staff and community service providers
- Ability to problem solve and respond to the unexpected (staff shortages, equipment malfunctions, etc.) while maintaining meal schedules
- Ability to relate effectively with young children, families, community members and staff
