JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Serves meals to patrons in dining establishment to ensure a world-class customer experience. This position requires an ABC card.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet customers warmly upon entrance, verify reservation details if applicable, and guide them to their tables, ensuring they are comfortable.Writes order on check or memorizes it.
- Hand out clean menus, inform guests of daily specials, and explain the layout of the menu (appetizers, entrees, desserts, beverages).
- Take food and beverage orders precisely, using the POS system, order slips, or memory, while noting special requests, dietary restrictions, and allergies.
- Transmit orders quickly and clearly to kitchen and bar staff, flagging any allergens or timing needs (e.g., “allergy to nuts,” “starter before main”).
- Pick up correct, well‑presented plates and drinks from the kitchen/bar and serve them to the right guests, confirming item accuracy before leaving the table.
- Check on tables at appropriate intervals to ensure meals are enjoyed, refill drinks, clear completed courses, and respond to additional requests (extra napkins, condiments).
- Address complaints or problems (cold food, wrong order) calmly and efficiently, offering solutions or involving management when necessary
- Generate itemized bills that include meal costs, taxes, and any service charges; split checks accurately per guest requests.
- Ladle soup, toss salads, portion pies and desserts, brew coffee, and perform other services as determined by the establishment's size and practices.
- Clears and resets counters or tables at the conclusion of each course.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:
High School or GED preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Restaurant experience as Server, Busser or Host/Hostess a plus.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Computer preferred for point-of-sale.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Coffee and tea makers; soda machines; ice machines; heavy trays to transport meals; occasional knives.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Fast-paced dining and Server station areas with need to coordinate among others in like positions and work with kitchen staff to get meals out timely.
COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Active listening skills and ability to articulate information both verbally and in writing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Normal speech, hearing, and vision. Ability to lift heavy trays with food or dirty dishes…40 pounds or more with assistance. Walking and standing for extended periods of time.
SAFETY:
Follow all FGCC safety programs, safety guidelines, policies and procedures. Wear, use and enforce all FGCC personal protection equipment (PPE) as needed on specific jobs and tasks.
Be aware of chemical safety and be familiar with all pertinent Safety Data Sheets (SDS) of chemicals which are used in the workplace.
Follow all FGCC safety rules including all local, state and federal regulations as they pertain to work at FGCC.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously; maintain composure when dealing with stressful situations. Ability to get along with others.

Must have a valid ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Commission) card, must attend the approved alcohol awareness class, maintain and comply with the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
