Provides the full range of social work services to district homeless students and their families in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations; serves as a liaison between the school division and community partners to identify and provide social, health, educational, and financial resources to qualified students; maintains data in case management logs and provides reporting to track needs and resource effectiveness; assists with the implementation and compliance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.

Required
- Master's degree from an approved program in social work, psychology or educational counseling, or a program deemed equivalent by the Virginia Department of Education review consisting of 60 graduate semester hours, plus a one (1) year internship as prescribed by the college awarding the degree.
- One (1) year of experience in delivering social work services to students and families in an individual or group setting.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- Knowledge of social work theory, practice, and procedures.
- Knowledge of local, state, and national regulations, legislation, policy, and reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to apply professional skills to provide wide-range counseling, diagnostic, and crisis intervention services to the needs and requirements of a public school system.
- Ability to perform and guide data collection and analysis to ensure effective services and to measure outcomes.
- Ability to gain the confidence and cooperation of students, teachers, and families.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with culturally diverse professionals within the school and the community.
- Analytic ability and adaptability to changing needs.
- Ability to write comprehensive reports and interpret findings to families.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Identifies homeless students within Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and supports the enrollment in all appropriate educational services for which they are eligible.
- Provides individual and group counseling and guidance to students and families; collaborates with school social workers to provide additional services.
- Systematically collects, analyzes, synthesizes, and interprets information needed to develop service plans for homeless students and their families.
- Determines needs for specific services through consultation with school-based administrators and staff; establishes priorities for service delivery within assigned schools.
- Works with area shelters and outside housing agencies to coordinate services and promote homeless shelter tutoring programs.
- Collaborates with school staff, parents, and students for referrals to health care services, such as dental, mental health, and other social services.
- Performs specialized social work in an educational setting to enable students to achieve optimal learning in academic, social, and emotional areas and to ensure retention.
- Assists with school registration, arranges transportation for homeless students, and facilitates the provision of any needed school supplies.
- Provides guidance on available financial assistance for homeless students; assists with qualification for the Free and Reduced Meals program.
- Represents FCPS at community events and serves on committees related to homeless students.
- Prepares and/or coordinates written and oral reports and analyses to identify and interpret trends or patterns in case management logs and track the effectiveness of service plans and resources.
- Assists with grant application submission data and provides related reports.
- Reviews and recommends revisions of policies and regulations that are barriers to enrollment and retention of homeless students.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
