Company Description Vision-Aid Charitable Services Society (VACSS) is a registered non-profit organization founded in 2004, dedicated to enabling and rehabilitating individuals with vision impairment in India. Managed by volunteer technocrat leaders, Vision-Aid designs and delivers technology-based solutions, free or subsidized services, and specialized computer training programs that are benchmarked against leading institutions. The organization works closely with partners such as CAF India, Rotary Club of Waltair, and Rotary Club of Visakhapatnam to reach and support more beneficiaries. Vision-Aid has received multiple national and international awards from organizations including DSIR, NASEOH, NASSCOM Resource Alliance, India NGO, NCPEDP, Mphasis, and Rockefeller, recognizing its impact in the low vision and blindness space. Through individualized assessments, training, and assistive devices, Vision-Aid empowers blind and low-vision students to become more independent and achieve their goals.
Role Description The Facilities Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, safety, and maintenance of Vision-Aid’s facilities. This position manages building upkeep, coordinates repairs and preventive maintenance, and ensures that classrooms, training centers, and administrative areas are clean, functional, and accessible to individuals with vision impairment. The Facilities Manager collaborates with vendors, service providers, and internal teams to manage utilities, equipment, and inventory, and to support technology-based programs and assistive devices. The role includes monitoring compliance with health, safety, and accessibility standards, implementing facility-related policies and procedures, and optimizing space utilization for training and rehabilitation activities. The Facilities Manager also prepares reports, manages budgets related to facilities, and supports senior leadership in planning improvements and upgrades.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess skills in facility operations, building maintenance coordination, and vendor management to ensure reliable upkeep of all physical spaces.
- Candidates should possess skills in health, safety, and accessibility compliance, including basic knowledge of regulations relevant to educational or rehabilitation environments.
- Candidates should possess skills in budgeting, cost control, and resource planning to manage facilities-related expenses effectively.
- Candidates should possess skills in scheduling, organizing workflows, and prioritizing tasks to support continuous, uninterrupted operations.
- Candidates should possess strong communication and collaboration skills to work with staff, volunteers, service providers, and external partners.
- Candidates should possess problem-solving skills and the ability to respond promptly to facility-related issues and emergencies.
- Experience in managing facilities for educational, healthcare, or NGO settings, especially those serving people with disabilities, is highly beneficial.
- A diploma or degree in facilities management, engineering, operations, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience in facility supervision will also be considered.
