Senior Electrical Engineer – Energy Storage / Renewable Systems

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with strong expertise in utility-scale renewable energy and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The role involves electrical system design, commissioning support, sustaining engineering activities, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure robust, reliable, and cost-effective system performance.

The engineer will support product improvement initiatives, field issue resolution, and electrical system standardization while working closely with product development, supply chain, and project execution teams.

Responsibilities

Electrical System Design & Engineering

• Lead electrical architecture design for BESS enclosures and plant-level systems.

• Perform electrical design calculations including:

  • Load flow analysis

  • Short circuit analysis

  • Protection coordination

  • Arc flash analysis

• Conduct power system simulations using tools such as ETAP and MATLAB.

• Execute cable sizing, scheduling, and harness design.

• Select electrical components such as circuit breakers, fuses, disconnectors, UPS, SMPS, sensors, etc.

• Support development and update of technical specifications and procurement documentation.

Sustaining & Product Engineering

• Support sustaining engineering activities including:

  • System modifications

  • Product upgrades

  • Stabilization initiatives

• Translate project-specific requirements into system and subsystem requirements within PLM systems.

• Manage and release Bill of Materials (BOM) in coordination with supply chain teams.

• Perform root cause analysis of field issues and support change management processes.

• Develop technical application notes and design guidelines.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with:

  • Electrical and multi-disciplinary design teams

  • Program and product management teams

  • Supply chain and procurement teams

  • Commissioning and service teams

• Provide technical consultation across departments.

• Support commissioning activities and system integration testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

• 6–10 years of experience in electrical system design.

• Minimum 1+ year experience in grid-tied BESS, large-scale renewable, or commercial PV systems.

Essential skills

• Strong experience in:

  • Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protection coordination)

  • Electrical equipment selection

  • Cable sizing and scheduling

  • BOM management

• Hands-on experience with ETAP, MATLAB (or similar simulation tools).

• Knowledge of applicable standards:

  • NEC, NESC

  • IEEE standards

  • IEC standards

  • UL certification requirements

• Understanding of grid interconnection standards (US or European codes preferred).

• Exposure to PLM systems and configuration management practices.

• Experience working in multi-disciplinary and global teams.

• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Desired skills

• Experience in utility-scale solar or energy storage systems.

• Knowledge of DC/AC and DC/DC power conversion systems.

• Familiarity with inverters, battery modules, and balance-of-plant equipment.

• Experience with product qualification through NRTLs (UL, Intertek, CSA).

• Familiarity with Agile methodologies.

• Basic programming knowledge (Python or MATLAB).

• Exposure to plant-level electrical drawings and drafting.

• Knowledge of TCP/IP and Ethernet-based control systems.

• NFPA 70E awareness or certification.
