Your work environment at EXP
The Segment Engineer is responsible for managing day‑to‑day construction, quality, and documentation activities within an assigned project segment. This role ensures that work is constructed in compliance with GDOT requirements, approved plans, specifications, and the Project Quality Management Plan (PQMP), including implementation of the Inspection and Control Quality Plan (ICQP) and Control Point Inspection Procedures. The Segment Engineer serves as the primary technical and coordination lead for their segment, overseeing inspections, submittals, tracking logs, and issue resolution through Procore and SharePoint systems
What a day at EXP has in store for you
- Manage construction activities within the assigned segment to ensure work progresses per approved plans, schedules, and specifications.
- Coordinate daily field operations with the Contractor, CEI staff, inspectors, survey, and testing personnel.
- Identify constructability issues, conflicts, or deviations and elevate them for timely resolution.
- Ensure implementation of ICQP‑2.2 Control Point Inspection Procedures for all applicable work elements within the segment.
- Verify that required Control Point Inspections (CPIs) are identified, scheduled, performed, and documented prior to proceeding with subsequent work.
- Confirm inspection hold points are respected and that corrective actions are completed and verified before release.
- Review completed Control Point Inspection Checklists and CPI Tracking Logs for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Coordinate with the Quality Manager and CEI staff to address nonconformances and ensure proper closeout.
- Oversee creation, execution, and closeout of inspections within Procore, ensuring alignment with approved inspection templates and ICQP requirements.
- Review inspection results, comments, deficiencies, and corrective actions; confirm timely closure.
- Maintain inspection records and segment documentation in accordance with project document control procedures.
- Review segment-related submittals for technical adequacy and constructability prior to routing for approval.
- Verify materials and products comply with GDOT specifications and the Qualified Products List (QPL).
- Coordinate with field staff to ensure only approved materials and methods are incorporated into the work.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for segment-specific technical and quality issues.
- Participate in progress meetings, quality meetings, and coordination meetings as required.
- Communicate inspection requirements, control points, and quality expectations clearly to field personnel and subcontractors.
- Track segment progress, inspection status, and quality metrics, identifying trends or recurring issues.
- Provide accurate status updates to project leadership, including CPI compliance, inspection closeout, and outstanding issues.
- Support preparation of reports and documentation required by GDOT and project management.
- Promote compliance with project safety plans and GDOT safety requirements within the segment.
- Coordinate with safety personnel to ensure quality and safety requirements are integrated into field operations.
What your experience looks like
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
Experience on GDOT roadway or major transportation infrastructure projects.
Working knowledge of inspection processes, quality management plans, and control point inspections.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and quality procedures. Familiarity with GDOT specifications, inspection checklists, and QPL requirements.
Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
Proficiency with Procore (inspections, submittals, document management).
Experience supporting or implementing ICQP / CQMP processes.
Attention to detail and quality compliance
