About the role

About Us:

At Everly, our vision is to change the paradigm of insurance. We know life insurance can be confusing and complex. We know that most people purchase life insurance at a milestone moment and file it away for the future. We want to change how people think about, buy, and use life insurance by being a partner in life’s journey. We are focused on making things that matter, making meaningful connections, and making things work WAY better. Our goal is to provide radically transparent, consumer-first insurance solutions.

We are looking for people with a continuous improvement mindset. Those who think the opposite of “This is how we’ve always done it”. We want people on our team who are always asking “How can we do this better?”

Our company values are a guide to our behavior and help inform our decisions. We want people who embody those values of breaking down barriers, owning the outcome, embracing the journey, and sparking joy.

This is a remote position based in the US with occasional travel.

We are seeking a motivated and curious Data Scientist Intern to join our Data Science & Engineering team for Summer 2025. This paid internship is part of the Everly Life Summer Internship Program, a 12-week structured program designed to deliver rapid growth, meaningful impact, and cross-functional fluency. You will collaborate closely with experienced data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to build models, monitor performance, and help advance Everly's MLOps ecosystem.

  • Prototype and Deploy ML Models: Develop, test, and deploy machine learning models with a focus on responsible AI and operational readiness
  • Model Monitoring: Build dashboards and monitoring systems to ensure model health, fairness, and ongoing performance post-deployment
  • Data Analysis and Feature Engineering: Explore, clean, and prepare datasets for model training and evaluation
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Data Engineering, Underwriting, and Actuarial teams to align technical solutions with business needs
  • Research and Documentation: Investigate best practices (e.g., fairness testing, explainability) and produce clear technical documentation for model lifecycle processes

What You’ll Bring:

  • Educational Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong proficiency in Python (3.x)
    • Familiarity with machine learning libraries and frameworks (e.g., scikitlearn, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
    • Exposure to model lifecycle concepts: training, validation, deployment, monitoring
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills, data intuition, and the ability to think critically about model design and evaluation
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic, remote environment; open to feedback and continuous learning

At Everly, we celebrate our diverse backgrounds and support our differences, and we are dedicated to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or any other legally protected status.
