The role combines technology leadership, product ownership, full-stack architecture, DevOps, stakeholder management, quality assurance, integrations and user enablement. The candidate will act as the key bridge between University management, academic/educational institutional processes, and the technology team, while maintaining sufficient technical depth to review architecture, code, infrastructure and production releases.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Frontend, Backend, QA, Functional Support and Training teams; plan priorities, sprints, resources and delivery timelines.
- Engage with University management, department heads, colleges, academic/educational stakeholders and administrative teams to understand requirements, processes and operational challenges.
- Translate institutional, academic and administrative requirements into functional specifications, technical roadmaps and actionable development plans.
- Own the complete ERP product lifecycle—requirement, design, development, testing, deployment, adoption and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate frontend/backend development, integrations and dependencies to ensure timely and functionally complete delivery.
- Establish strong QA, testing, release and production-readiness processes, including review of critical changes before deployment.
- Oversee DevOps and infrastructure including CI/CD, Linux/server environments, databases, backups, load balancing, storage, monitoring, scalability and production reliability.
- Oversee integrations with payment gateways, biometric devices, communication platforms, APIs and other third-party systems.
- Drive ERP training, user on boarding, documentation, feedback and support to ensure effective adoption across departments and colleges.
- Drive continuous improvement through automation, new modules, process simplification, performance enhancement and improved user experience.
- Support technology procurement, vendor evaluation and infrastructure planning when required.
- Oversee technology development and maintenance of University websites, college portals and associated digital platforms.
Technology & Platform Landscape:
The role will oversee a multi-platform technology ecosystem serving academic and educational institutions, including:
- Application Stack: Centralized Python/Django backend, Next.js web applications and Flutter mobile application.
- DevOps & Environments: Staging and production environments, Jenkins-based CI/CD, release and deployment management.
- Infrastructure: MinIO object storage, database clustering with ProxySQL, multiple backend instances and load-balanced architecture.
- Integrations: Biometric devices, payment gateways, IVR/SIP, WhatsApp Business (WABA), email services, ID-card printing systems and planned POS integrations.
- Digital Platforms: Student, Admission, Careers and Admin/Employee Portals; Performance & Appraisal, Events, Lead Management and other academic/administrative ERP modules.
- Extended Scope: University website, college sub-websites, new ERP modules, integrations and emerging digital services.
Required Technical & Leadership Competencies
- 5–6+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, ERP/product development, technology delivery or enterprise digital platforms, preferably within academic/educational institutions, universities, colleges or other complex institutional environments.
- Proven experience leading a 10–15+ member multidisciplinary technology team.
- Strong full-stack architecture understanding with hands-on exposure to Python/Django, React/Next.js, REST APIs and relational databases.
- Working knowledge of mobile application architecture, with Flutter experience preferred.
- Strong practical understanding of CI/CD, Jenkins, Linux, deployment, load balancing, object storage, database clustering/proxying, monitoring and production troubleshooting.
- Ability to review and challenge system architecture, code, technical designs and infrastructure decisions and drive scalable, maintainable solutions.
- Experience managing third-party/API integrations, particularly payments, communication platforms and devices.
- Strong product ownership, project execution, prioritization and stakeholder-management capabilities.
- Ability to translate management objectives, academic requirements and institutional processes into clear technical roadmaps and measurable deliverables.
- Experience with University/Education ERP or complex multi-department academic/educational platforms will be highly desirable.
Leadership Expectations:
The successful candidate should be:
- Technically hands-on enough to review designs, diagnose critical issues and make informed architecture and release decisions.
- Comfortable working directly with management, academic leaders, department heads, administrative teams and end users.
- Capable of balancing new development, live-system operations, support, training, security and system stability.
- Focused on building a strong internal team through documentation, knowledge transfer and structured training.
- Able to establish clear ownership, quality standards, release discipline and measurable delivery practices.
Success in the Role
Success will be measured by:
- Predictable and timely delivery of ERP modules and enhancements.
- Stable, secure and scalable production and staging environments.
