Data Engineer

Reporting to the Manager Data Strategy, Management and Transformation, the Data Engineer is responsible for the design and development of priority enhancements and improvements to EPA's data platforms, data and insights enabled solutions, data and information management initiatives, business processes and overall capability, aligned to EPA's strategic priorities, to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste This is a senior role for an experienced data engineer who wants to contribute to the success of the EPA as it enters a new era of environmental protection in Victoria. Working closely with the Manager Data Strategy, Management and Transformation, you will actively contribute to a positive organisational culture and achieve the highest standards of performance and integrity; fostering genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to support the delivery organisational outcomes. In this role you will: Support team to assess enhancement requests, understand time and resource costs, tasks and skills required, and project planning. Support team to identify enterprise needs; design and build solutions for spatial and non-spatial data acquisition and ingestion, warehousing, architecture, and engineering based on requirements. Providing second and third level IT support, problem troubleshooting, and change support as they relate to the data engineering platform and products. Create and maintain technical documentation, including but not limited to define and design, service level agreements, interface agreements, quick reference guides, data registries. Skills and experience: Highly proficient in leading design and development of data solutions using modern data technologies. Proven expertise in developing scalable data pipelines and physical data models, driving best practices in efficient data management. Experience supporting BI and data science workflows. Hands-on experience in SQL and Python. Demonstrated ability to plan, monitor and deliver multiple concurrent projects / programs, including risk identification and management; optimise the allocation and use of resources; and evaluate project / program effectiveness. Experience leading technical work at an advanced level. Familiarity with agile ways of working.
