Candidates should note that entry will be at the minimum of the relevant scale and the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Subject to satisfactory performance, increments may be payable in line with current Government policy.

Role Purpose:

The Irish Government export development agency, Enterprise Ireland (EI), is recruiting a key person to drive the growth in export sales of Irish companies in Japan for the Industrial and Lifesciences sectors from Ireland. The person appointed will have relevant commercial experience and will join a small dynamic team in Japan, working in partnership with the wider Enterprise Ireland Asia-Pacific and Ireland based teams.

Ireland has an excellent global reputation for industrial and lifesciences innovation, and this portfolio comprises companies in sectors such as medtech, biopharma and clinical trials, digital health and materials handling, engineering and manufacturing solutions across a range of verticals.

Japan is the third largest market in Asia Pacific for Irish exporters, with typically double digit export growth per annum, notwithstanding it is a complex and distant market requiring the deep commitment of potential exporters. These factors demand that an effective senior market adviser has an ability to proactively spot well-matched opportunities within the Japanese market, build relationships to drive the commitment of Irish companies with strong propositions for the market, and provide necessary business/cultural insight to support successful market entry efforts. In the context of global value chain dynamics, increasingly open models of innovation in Japan, and the significant Japanese investment trends into Irish technology businesses, Japan is an important region as Irish companies look to diversify and globalise. The participation by Ireland at Osaka Expo 2025 and the recent opening of a new “Ireland House” (Embassy of Ireland incorporating Enterprise Ireland’s offices) will provide unique platforms for the delivery of impactful support to the portfolio for the successful Senior Market Adviser.

The person appointed will work as a key member of a dynamic Japan team, proactively engaging with Irish businesses to ensure they enter the Japanese market successfully and reach their full growth potential. This involves advising Irish companies on their market entry and market growth plans, supporting go-to-market plan execution, and brokering introductions to customers and partners. The role also involves highlighting market opportunities to the Irish client company base, helping them understand shifting market dynamics and raising the awareness of the strengths and capabilities of these sectors in Ireland.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a track-record in business development with a strong understanding of how Irish companies can scale their business in the Japan market across these sectors.
