About the Department
This position is responsible for the custodial care and maintenance of Public Works buildings and facilities.
Position Duties
MAJOR DUTIES
· Empties and cleans waste receptacles; replaces liners.
· Cleans and sanitizes restrooms; restocks restroom supplies.
· Sweeps, mops, waxes, and vacuums floors.
· Cleans mirrors and windows.
· Dusts and polishes furniture, blinds, and windowsills.
· Replaces lightbulbs.
· Maintains cleaning equipment and other tools.
· Cleans and sanitizes department vehicles.
· Collects litter and empties outdoor trash receptacles.
· Picks up parts from vendors for Fleet Maintenance as needed.
· Performs related duties.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Public Works Director and City Engineer assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include supervisory instructions and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
CONTACTS
· Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city employees, and the general public.
· Contacts are typically to provide services.
Minimum Qualifications
· Knowledge of city safety policies and procedures.
· Knowledge of the use of various cleaning chemicals.
· Skill in operating such cleaning equipment as a vacuum cleaner.
· Skill in following instructions.
· Skill in prioritizing work.
Other Qualifications
· Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
· Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
· Possession of a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
