Job Description
The Engineering Manager – VECE COE (PA) is responsible for leading Value Engineering (VE) and Component Engineering (CE) initiatives across Process Automation project engineering portfolios.
This role owns end-to-end VE/CE program execution, drives cost optimization and productivity improvements, and leads a team of engineers delivering system-level solutions across PA platforms (e.g., Experion PKS, cabinets, control hardware, networking, I/O and RTU systems).
The position operates with high autonomy and requires strong cross-functional collaboration across Engineering, Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), Manufacturing, and global teams.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- People Leadership
- Lead and manage a Global VE/CE engineering team, providing technical direction, coaching, and performance management.
- Own VE/CE delivery for assigned product lines, with accountability for cost out pipeline creation, prioritization, and execution of Process Automation
- Partner closely with Product Engineering, and Project Engineering teams of PA, Program Management, Sourcing, and Procurement to identify and realize VE/CE opportunities.
- Drive technical capability building in PA systems, VE/CE methodologies, and cost engineering
- Manage resource planning, workload allocation, Budget and performance management
- Build a high-performing, accountable, and innovation-driven team culture
- Provide technical governance and decision authority for VE/CE design changes in electromechanical systems used in Process Automation business
- VE/CE Program Management
- Own and drive VE/CE project lifecycle (Both DM and Non DM): ideation → feasibility → execution → validation → closure
- Build and sustain a strong pipeline of VE/CE opportunities aligned with PA priorities
- Ensure delivery of productivity targets (Direct Material and Non-DM savings)
- Track and govern project execution through standard VECE tools and operating mechanisms.
- Work closely with Sourcing and factories and technology team to generate new VECE ideas.
- System Engineering & Cost Optimization
- Lead system-level cost optimization initiatives for PA solutions, including:
- Distributed Control Systems (e.g., Experion PKS)
- Cabinets, control panels, and hardware platforms
- Networking, I/O subsystems, and RTU architectures
- Knowledge on UMS, safety cabinets and other key product lines of PA
- Identify cost-out opportunities across system architecture, assemblies, and suppliers
- Ensure design changes meet safety, compliance, certification, and customer requirements
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Project Engineering, Proposal, and NPI teams to identify VE/CE opportunities
- Work closely with ISC / Sourcing teams on supplier strategy, dual sourcing, and negotiations
- Engage with manufacturing sites for factory productivity and implementation
- Lead VECE ideation workshops and stakeholder engagement
- Financial & Business Ownership
- Deliver measurable cost savings and margin improvement for the PA business
- Develop business cases including ROI, NRE, payback, and risk assessment
- Support Annual Operating Plan (AOP), STRAP, and productivity forecasting
- Ensure alignment with VECE COE business goals and PA strategic priorities
- Governance & Operational Excellence
- Establish and drive strong program governance and PMO practices
- Lead technical and business reviews at COE/GBE/system levels
- Drive continuous improvement and standardization across VECE processes
- Maintain required documentation:
- Cost analysis and savings validation
- Design changes and compliance documentation
- Risk assessments and supplier comparisons
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, or equivalent.
- 12 – 15 + years of experience in Process Automation
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership and engineering management
- Strong experience in system-level design and cost optimization initiatives
- Strong knowledge in electro-mechanical design and ability to convert the ideas to VE projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in PA project engineering processes and lifecycle
- Experience with DCS platforms such as Experion PKS or equivalent
- Exposure to certification-driven environments (IECEx, ATEX, UL, CSA)
- Experience working with global engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing teams
- Strong program management, financial acumen, and stakeholder management skills
