We are looking for a highly technical Engineering Manager who can lead by example—someone equally comfortable discussing architecture and system internals as they are coaching engineers and driving delivery.

In this role, you’ll lead a team of senior engineers working on complex, large-scale systems. You will bring deep technical judgment, excellent debugging instincts, and a bias for shipping scalable, reliable, and secure systems.

You will be expected to be hands-on in architecture and code reviews, set high engineering standards, and collaborate cross-functionally to translate business needs into robust engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Own system design, architecture reviews, performance optimizations, and scalability planning.
  • Lead technical decision-making and guide the team on best practices in coding, testing, observability, and infrastructure.
  • Review PRs, debug critical issues, and get into the weeds when needed.
  • Stay ahead of tech debt and proactively drive platform stability, cost-efficiency, and performance improvements.
  • Lead a team of senior/staff engineers, setting clear expectations and high technical standards.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation.
  • Drive sprint planning, deliverables, and release timelines while managing scope and technical risk.
  • Guide engineers through deep-dive problem-solving and unblock challenges at both system and team levels.
  • Partner with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and Security to build scalable, secure, and future-proof systems.
  • Translate business problems into high-quality engineering solutions with measurable outcomes.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of services (SLAs, SLOs, incident management).
  • Drive initiatives on CI/CD, testing automation, observability, and cost-optimization.
  • Build strong metrics dashboards and use data to guide engineering decisions.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering experience with strong backend/system-level expertise.
  • 2+ years of people management experience, including leading senior/principal engineers.
  • Deep experience in building microservices and distributed systems (preferred: Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, Golang, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native architecture (preferably AWS), Kubernetes, CI/CD, and monitoring tools (New Relic, Datadog, etc.).
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; you can guide root cause analysis in high-pressure situations.
  • Track record of leading teams that build reliable, scalable, secure, and maintainable systems.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with database performance tuning (RDS, DynamoDB, Cassandra, etc.).
  • Exposure to payment systems, PCI compliance, or enterprise-grade security protocols.
  • Experience influencing product direction through engineering insight.

We seek candidates who not only demonstrate curiosity and adaptability in emerging technologies but have also successfully implemented and utilized AI tools to enhance their work, improve processes, or deliver measurable results. Our teams embrace continuous learning and the thoughtful integration of AI to create meaningful impact – for our employees and the future of work.
