Job details:
Who are we?
Whatfix is an AI platform advancing the “userization” of enterprise applications, empowering companies to maximize the ROI of their digital investments. Technology needs adoption. It’s no different for AI. As AI reshapes roles, workflows, and human-machine interactions, it also introduces new layers of complexity and user friction. This is where Whatfix plays a pivotal role. A decade old DNA of empowering people to succeed with technology and not replacing them. We call this philosophy Userization: the belief that technology must adapt to the user, not the other way around.
At the heart of userization philosophy is ScreenSense, our proprietary AI engine, which continuously interprets both the context of what users are doing in an application or an AI tool and the intent behind their actions. By combining these signals, Whatfix delivers real-time guidance, nudges, knowledge, and automation directly in the flow of work.
This intelligence powers our entire product suite.
- Digital Adoption helps users get productive faster.
- Product Analytics uncovers friction and closes adoption gaps.
- Mirror allows employees to train in safe, simulated environments.
These are embedded with Whatfix AI Agents which supercharge creation, insights, and user guidance.
Our upcoming AI-first products are already creating a buzz in the market.
- Seek is an AI-native assistant that not only knows your business context but can also act across applications to get work done on your behalf.
- Whatfix Mirror 2.0 is the world’s only System plus Role simulation with a complete assessment to lead the Gen AI simulation category.
Together, these products reflect Whatfix’s commitment to building enterprise-ready AI teammates that maximize productivity and ROI. It gives users a unified, intelligent way to find answers across systems, apps, and knowledge silos and helps anyone looking to deliver fast and contextual answers.

Role Overview:
As an Engineering Lead (EL3) at Whatfix, you own end‑to‑end engineering responsibility for a defined product or platform area, spanning backend, frontend, and system-level concerns. This is a hands-on leadership role where you combine strong full‑stack technical depth with people leadership to deliver scalable, reliable, and high‑quality systems.
You are the technical and execution anchor for your product area - setting the bar for design, code quality, delivery discipline, operational excellence, and customer impact. You lead from the front: writing code every sprint, making architecture decisions, and growing engineers who can independently own complex systems.
Leadership & Ownership
- Lead and manage 7–10 engineers (nos. may vary), directly and/or through other Engineering Leads
- Set clear technical and execution vision; engineers look up to you for direction, standards, and decision‑making
- Empower the team to own the product area end‑to‑end: prioritization, development, deployment, monitoring, and customer support
- Maintain a strong pulse on production health, success issues, infra costs, and operational risks
- Champion and enforce a meaningful Definition of Done, focused on long‑term quality-not checklists
- Be available to support production triage and critical incidents in collaboration with SRE
Technical Excellence (Hands‑On)
- Pick up at least one development task every sprint across backend or frontend
- Own architecture and design decisions; represent your product area in reviews and forums (including ARB)
- Uphold a high technical bar while making pragmatic trade‑offs aligned with business needs
- Proactively identify technical risks, scalability bottlenecks, and areas needing spikes or re‑architecture
- Drive reusability by investing in shared libraries, platforms, and common patterns
- Actively use Generative AI to improve developer productivity and explore AI‑first capabilities in product features
- Planning & Prioritization: Own sprint/release planning, breaking features into well-scoped tasks while balancing delivery, quality, and customer-impacting issues
- People Development & Team Building: Own performance management and coaching while building a strong, accountable team and raising the hiring bar
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Partner across Product, Design, CS, Presales, and Support, guiding teams and eliminating single points of failure through knowledge sharing
Must‑Have Technical Skills
- Strong hands‑on experience in Core Java, Spring / Spring Boot, RESTful services
- Experience with JavaScript / TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (React or equivalent)
- Proven ability to design and build large‑scale, distributed systems
- Experience with unit testing, automation, and testability‑first design
- Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud‑native deployments
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
- Strong debugging skills across the stack
- Deep understanding of performance, scalability, fault tolerance, and high availability
Experience & Mindset
- 9 –14 years of software engineering experience with sustained ownership of complex systems
- Demonstrated success leading and mentoring high‑performing engineering teams
- Strong system design fundamentals and architectural judgment
- Customer‑first mindset with the ability to align technical decisions to business outcomes
- High ownership, bias for action, and continuous improvement mentality
Behavioral Traits We Value
- Clear, direct, and empathetic communicator
- Role model for technical rigor, ownership, and execution
- Comfortable tackling ambiguous, high‑impact problems
- Entrepreneurial mindset-turns constraints into opportunities
