About the Role:
Your code runs across Abercrombie & Fitch, A&F Kids, and Hollister—global brands with millions of customers who notice when experiences are great and when they're not.
We're looking for a front-end engineer who gets energy from building experiences at scale. Someone who cares about the craft of a fast, accessible, well-tested UI—and who understands that "ship it" means shipping something you're proud of, not just something that works in a demo.
You'll work on a cross-functional squad building new features across upper and lower funnel experiences, partnering with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to create moments that surprise and delight customers. You'll write React components, query GraphQL APIs, and push features through CI/CD—but you'll also think critically about performance, accessibility, and how your work holds up in the real world.
Quality is a shared responsibility here, not a separate team's problem. Engineers own their tests. We shift left. We automate. And we're building an AI-forward engineering culture where tools like Cursor and Copilot aren't novelties—they're how we work.
Location: This role is remote for most US-based candidates. If you live close to our New Albany, OH campus, you'll work hybrid (in-office 3 days per week).
What Will You Do:
Build customer-facing features at scale:
- Ship front-end features using React, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS/SASS that run across multiple global brands and markets
- Work with GraphQL and Apollo to connect rich UIs to the data that powers them
- Write code that's fast, accessible, and maintainable—not just functional
Own quality in everything you ship:
- Write meaningful tests using Jest and Playwright alongside the features you build
- Think about edge cases during refinement, not after release
- Participate in a shift-left quality culture where engineers own testing end to end and automation is expected, not optional
Collaborate as part of a squad:
- Work daily with product managers, designers, and engineers through planning, refinement, standups, and retros
- Communicate trade-offs clearly
- Give and receive thoughtful code reviews
- Contribute to a team environment where people make each other better
Care about performance and the customer experience:
- Monitor and optimize front-end performance
- Investigate issues with a systems mindset—understanding not just what broke, but why, and how to prevent it next time
- Use observability tools to stay connected to real-world behavior
Embrace AI-assisted development:
- Use AI tools like Cursor and Copilot as part of your daily workflow to accelerate development, improve code quality, and explore solutions faster
- Contribute to a culture that's actively figuring out how AI makes engineering teams better
What Do You Need to Bring:
Required:
- 4+ years of experience in front-end engineering or a closely related role
- Strong proficiency with React, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS/SASS
- Experience working with GraphQL or RESTful APIs
- Hands-on experience writing automated UI tests (Jest/ Playwright/ React Test library or similar)
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and modern deployment practices
- Experience working in Agile, cross-functional teams
- Comfort using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, OpenClaw, ChatGpt, GitHub Copilot)
- Knowledge of mobile-first responsive design and progressive enhancement
- Experience developing to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1)
- Strong communication skills—you can articulate technical trade-offs clearly
Preferred:
- Experience with Node.js, NPM, and front-end build tooling
- Familiarity with micro frontend architectures
- Experience with Apollo Client or similar GraphQL client libraries
- Understanding of SEO/SEM best practices
- Experience with observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace)
- Exposure to mutation testing (e.g., Stryker)
- Familiarity with localization and internationalization (i18n/l10n)
- Experience in retail or e-commerce at scale
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
