The team

The Engineering team sits within our Marketing, Digital and Technology Centre of Excellence, playing a crucial role within Energy Saving Trust by developing and maintaining software solutions that support the delivery of energy efficiency programmes and initiatives. Sitting within the Technical Specialist category, the team collaborates closely with clients and internal stakeholders to implement reliable, scalable digital solutions that align with our mission of addressing the climate emergency.

We are a collaborative and supportive team that values innovation, quality, and continuous learning. We embrace Agile practices and regularly participate in code reviews, stand-ups, and planning sessions to ensure transparency, team alignment, and shared ownership of deliverables.

Working in Engineering at Energy Saving Trust means being part of something bigger, contributing directly to solutions that have a real-world environmental impact, while learning and growing alongside supportive, skilled colleagues.

The role

  • As a Software Developer in the Engineering team, you’ll work across the full software lifecycle—from solution design through to delivery, testing, and deployment. This permanent role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful projects that directly support Energy Saving Trust’s mission of helping people save energy and reduce carbon emissions.
  • You’ll engage in solution architecture, technical decision-making, and hands-on coding while also supporting junior developers and maintaining close communication with project stakeholders.
  • Your work will support national programmes and contribute to building platforms that help households, businesses, and communities transition to more sustainable energy practices. Success in this role means taking ownership of your code, contributing meaningfully to team practices, and helping deliver high-quality solutions that are robust, scalable, and aligned with strategic goals.

What you’ll do

  • Contribute to the design, architecture, and technical direction of software solutions, ensuring they are scalable and fit for purpose.
  • Deliver clean, maintainable code while taking ownership of tasks and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in code reviews and agile ceremonies to maintain high development standards and continuous improvement.
  • Coach and mentor junior developers to support their growth and help embed good engineering practices.
  • Improve system performance and stability, and contribute to technical strategy for future platform enhancements.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong technical background with demonstrable experience developing with Microsoft platform tools including Visual Studio, C#, .Net 4.8, .Net 6+, ASP.NET MVC, Web API, and SQL Server.
  • Proven expertise in solution design and architecture, with the ability to make pragmatic technology choices and deliver scalable, maintainable systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to manage your own workload, contribute to team success, and mentor junior developers.
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure), Agile methodologies, and secure development practices such as ISO 27001.
