Mission:
The EMV L2 Kernel & Applet Expert will be responsible for the understand, design, and optimise EMV Level 2 kernels and payment applets specification across contact and contactless form factors. The role combines deep technical expertise with a consulting mindset to guide internal teams and customers through EMV implementations, certification journeys, and developing test procedures.
ACTIVITIES
- Develop, maintain, and optimize EMV Level 2 kernels and payment specifications for terminals, SoftPOS, mobile, and other acceptance devices, ensuring full alignment with EMVCo and scheme-specific specifications
- Analyze transaction flows and APDU exchanges
- Act as a technical consultant to internal teams, translating business requirements into compliant EMV L2 solutions
- Proactively monitor EMVCo bulletins, scheme updates, security recommendations, and industry trends; assess impact on existing kernels/applets and propose update plans
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including interface specifications, certification artefacts, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge base articles.
JOB EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in EMV Level 2 kernel & applet specification understanding.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Solid understanding of EMVCo specifications, scheme‑specific L2 requirements (e.g., Visa, Mastercard, Amex, RuPay, UnionPay, etc.), and their impact on kernel behaviour and certification.
- Strong understanding of EMV specifications and smart card technology.
- Proficient in using EMVCo test tools and certification software.
- Basic programming knowledge (C/C++ or scripting for test automation) is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills focused on quality assurance.
- Strong documentation and communication skills for technical reporting and coordination.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience testing EMV kernels for global payment networks (Visa, Mastercard, Amex).
- Familiarity with POS terminal hardware and software environments.
- Understanding of the overall payment ecosystem and related security standards.
- Knowledge of automated testing frameworks and scripting is advantageous.
Additional requirements:
- Prior experience in a consulting, solution architect, or customer‑facing technical role within payments, terminals, or fintech is highly desirable.
