Key Responsibilities
• Active Listening: Be fully present and attentive when employees choose to share. The counsellor's primary tool is listening — not advising, not fixing.
• Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality at all times. No employee's conversation will be shared with HR, management, or any colleague.
• Emotional Support: Offer empathy and acknowledgment without making promises, commitments, or guarantees of outcome.
• Wellbeing Presence: Be a visible, approachable, and calm presence within the office environment.
• Boundary Maintenance: Maintain clear professional ethics — avoid forming personal friendships with employees being counselled, and avoid dual relationships.
• Referral (when appropriate): With consent, guide employees toward professional help if the concern exceeds the counsellor's scope.
What This Role Is NOT
• Not a complaint box or grievance channel.
• Not a reporting mechanism to HR or management.
• Not a mediator or decision-maker.
• Not a friend or peer — professional boundaries apply at all times.
Skills & Qualities Required
• Strong empathy and active listening ability.
• Understanding of basic counselling principles and ethics.
• Non-judgmental and culturally sensitive approach.
• Emotional maturity and self-awareness.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality under all circumstances.
• Good communication skills in the local language(s) and English.
