About the role

The VP serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for aligning clinical operations with organizational strategy, workforce optimization, and performance outcomes. A strong focus on data analytics and advanced use of Home Care Home Base (HCHB) as a strategic differentiator will be critical to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide vision and leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical programs and services across the hospice continuum of care.
  • Establish and maintain clinical practice standards that support the hospice philosophy, regulatory compliance, and evidence-based care.
  • Partner with the medical director and physician leadership to drive interdisciplinary collaboration and continuity of care.
  • Lead program growth, innovation, and integration of new care delivery models to meet organizational and community needs.
  • Leverage data and trend analysis to proactively identify opportunities for growth, efficiency, and improved patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to enterprise-wide strategic planning by translating data insights into actionable clinical and operational strategies.

Operational Management

  • Oversee daily operations of nursing, social work, chaplaincy, hospice aides, volunteer services, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure effective staffing models, workforce planning, and productivity standards to balance quality care with operational efficiency.
  • Manage clinical budgets, forecasting, and resource allocation to meet financial and performance targets.
  • Partner with business development teams to support census growth and patient access while maintaining quality of care.
  • Use workforce and utilization data to optimize scheduling, staffing allocation, and resource deployment across regions.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation, state licensing requirements, and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CHAP).
  • Embed data-driven performance monitoring systems to improve outcomes, reduce risk, and strengthen patient safety.
  • Oversee clinical audits, regulatory surveys, and corrective action plans.
  • Monitor patient and family satisfaction, implementing service recovery and improvement strategies as needed.
  • Develop dashboards and scorecards to track KPIs, ensuring leadership teams are accountable for results and aligned with strategic objectives.

People Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop clinical leaders and managers to ensure a high-performing, engaged workforce.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning across all clinical teams.
  • Provide ongoing education and training on best practices in hospice and palliative care, regulatory compliance, and use of technology systems.
  • Promote the use of analytics at the leadership and frontline levels to encourage data-informed decision-making.

Technology & Data Management

  • Serve as an organizational subject matter expert in Home Care Home Base (HCHB), optimizing workflows, documentation practices, and reporting functions.
  • Leverage HCHB and other data analytics platforms to identify trends, monitor KPIs, and guide both tactical and strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure staff adoption and effective use of HCHB to maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate with IT and operations to advance digital innovation and streamline care delivery processes.
  • Partner with analytics teams to ensure data integrity, develop predictive models, and support organizational dashboards that drive accountability and results.

Strategic Growth and Market Expansion in Polk, Hardee, Highland (PHH)

  • Drive improvement of Quality STAR Ratings across the PHH footprint through strategic leadership, data analysis, and performance optimization.
  • Achieve or exceed established admission goals by developing targeted growth strategies, monitoring referral trends, and ensuring operational readiness.
  • Attain or surpass Average Daily Census (ADC) targets through proactive census management, collaboration with clinical and outreach teams, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the successful launch, implementation, and ongoing operational oversight of the new GIP/8th Hospice House within the PHH footprint, ensuring quality, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Oversee the successful initiation and management of the Palliative Care Contract at Winter Haven Hospital, ensuring seamless integration and high-quality service delivery.
  • Provide strategic oversight of Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) meetings within the PHH footprint to ensure effective collaboration, care planning, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain a consistent, visible leadership presence within the PHH footprint—at least one day per week or two days every other week—to support team engagement, monitor performance, and drive achievement of budgeted goals.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred (Bachelor’s degree with extensive executive leadership experience required).
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required; certification in Hospice and Palliative Nursing (CHPN) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in hospice, palliative care, or post-acute healthcare, including at least 5 years in a senior executive role.
  • Deep knowledge of hospice philosophy, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Home Care Home Base (HCHB), including system optimization, data reporting, and staff training.
  • Proven ability to lead large interdisciplinary teams, manage complex budgets, and achieve clinical and operational goals.
  • Strong track record in quality improvement, compliance, and successful navigation of regulatory surveys.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and change management skills.
