Embedded Hardware Engineer
Cams Biometrics | Sholinganallur, Chennai | Full-Time
About Us
Cams Biometrics is "The Biometric Gateway" — a B2B2C universal biometric API infrastructure company operating across 104 countries. We're expanding into advanced embedded systems across automation, connectivity, and mobility verticals.
The Role
We're looking for a core electronics engineer — someone who lives and breathes circuits. You'll lead hardware development for our next-generation product lines, owning the full lifecycle from schematic to production. You must be exceptional at hands-on assembly, bring-up, and troubleshooting — and work closely with our in-house firmware team to ship real products.
We actively use AI tools across the design workflow — schematic generation, Gerber output, simulation, and validation — and expect you to embrace and drive this approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Hand-assemble prototypes and bring up new boards from scratch
- Troubleshoot and debug hardware issues quickly — at component, board, and system level
- Lead end-to-end hardware development: schematics, PCB layout, BOM, and production handoff
- Use AI-assisted EDA tools to accelerate design and reduce iteration cycles
- Collaborate with the firmware team — defining hardware interfaces, pin mappings, and electrical specs for seamless integration
- Drive prototyping, testing, and hardware validation independently
- Manage outsourced vendors with full technical oversight
- Design for IoT and wireless communication (WiFi, BLE, LoRa)
- Conduct feasibility studies and research for new product concepts
Must-Have Skills
- Strong hands-on assembly skills — soldering, rework, and bench bring-up
- Excellent troubleshooting ability — oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter proficiency
- 3+ years in electronics hardware development (concept to production)
- Expert in PCB design — Altium, KiCad, or Eagle
- Strong understanding of embedded systems architecture and hardware-firmware co-design
- Communication protocols: UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Modbus — from a hardware design perspective
- Power electronics and circuit optimization fundamentals
- Hands-on prototyping and hardware validation experience
Good to Have
- Experience with AI-assisted EDA or design automation tools
- Knowledge of BMS, power distribution, or motor control systems
- Familiarity with IoT platforms and wireless communication standards
- Experience with safety-critical or industrial system design
You're a Great Fit If You…
- Have shipped real hardware products, not just prototypes
- Take ownership and don't wait to be managed
- Collaborate well with software and firmware teams
- Embrace AI tools to work faster and smarter
Compensation & Perks
- ₹3,60,000 – ₹6,00,000 per annum (based on experience)
- Performance-based project incentives
- Ownership over hardware decisions from day one
- Modern R&D lab, small focused team, direct leadership access
- Growth path into senior R&D and team leadership roles
