POSITION SUMMARY
The ELN & Data Capture Engineer supports and enhances Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and experimental data capture platforms that enable scientists to plan, execute, and record work efficiently and compliantly. This role provides L2/L3 engineering for solutions such as BIOVIA, E-Workbook, Benchling, and Pristima, with emphasis on reliability, upgrade cadence, and end-user productivity. The engineer drives incident reduction and modernization for E-Workbook in particular, supporting a large user base and addressing recurring issues and upgrade backlogs. The role also partners with ZCAM and ADS stakeholders to evaluate, align, and integrate ELN capabilities—especially where Benchling adoption and governance are actively evolving. Success requires strong stakeholder management, disciplined change control, and a focus on scalable support for high-usage platforms.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- ELN Sustainment & Support (L2/L3): troubleshoot application issues, manage incidents/requests, and maintain service stability across ELN/data capture tools.
- Watson OS Migration Delivery: plan and execute migration from Windows 2016 to Windows 2022 across Watson environments (testing, cutover, validation evidence, rollback planning).
- E-Workbook Reliability & Upgrade Execution: plan, test, and deliver upgrades/patches; address chronic issues; reduce technical debt for a large user population.
- Platform Configuration & Enablement: manage templates, metadata, permissions, and standardized workflows to improve usability and compliance.
- Integration & Ecosystem Alignment: partner with ZCAM/ADS and downstream systems to enable data flows, identifiers, and interoperability.
· Vendor & Stakeholder Management: coordinate roadmaps, support escalations, and governance discussions (e.g., Benchling alignment).
- Documentation & Knowledge Assets: maintain runbooks, configuration records, validation artifacts where applicable, and knowledge base articles.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Life Sciences Informatics, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
· 3+ years supporting ELN and/or lab data capture systems.
· Experience supporting large user communities with frequent incidents, change communications, and release management.
Experience in regulated environments and data integrity expectations preferred.)
Certifications: ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) is required. Additional certifications related to CMDB and ITOM are a plus.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
· Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis across application, configuration, and integrations.
· Experience with release planning, regression testing, and stakeholder readiness.
· Knowledge of lab documentation practices, templates, and controlled metadata.
Strong communication and collaboration skills across scientists, IT, and vendors.
