Job Summary
This entry-level/early career, product-focused role is responsible for validation and testing of electronic and electrical systems for Cummins products. The position involves translating product and system requirements into robust test strategies, developing and executing validation plans, and ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of embedded software and integrated systems across various customer applications.
The role supports the full product lifecycle through testing, defect resolution, and continuous improvement of validation processes and tools.
Key Responsibilities
Test Planning & Strategy
- Understand software requirements, system architecture, and use cases.
- Define test strategies across unit, integration, system, and regression levels.
- Identify test scope, entry/exit criteria, risks, dependencies, and contribute to project estimation.
Test Design & Development
- Derive and develop test cases from requirements, design documents, and models.
- Create functional, boundary, negative, fault injection, timing, and robustness test cases.
- Maintain test artifacts in tools such as Windchill RV&S, DOORS, and Jira.
Test Environment Setup
- Configure and validate test benches including ECUs, target hardware, and debugging tools (TRACE32, JTAG).
- Utilize communication and validation tools such as CAN, LIN, FlexRay, CANoe, CANalyzer, PCAN, and NI TestStand.
- Integrate simulators, stubs, and mock environments for testing.
Test Execution & Validation
- Execute tests on embedded systems and AUTOSAR platforms.
- Capture logs, analyze results, and maintain test evidence for audits and customer reviews.
- Support system-level validation activities including DVP&R, simulation, and troubleshooting.
Defect Management & Reporting
- Investigate system and application issues, perform root cause analysis, and support resolution.
- Prepare and communicate test reports, defect metrics, coverage, and quality indicators.
- Highlight residual risks, known limitations, and release readiness to stakeholders.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software, hardware, product, and manufacturing teams.
- Contribute to improvement of testing processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Support product lifecycle activities including requirements, calibration, and validation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant STEM field is required.
- Master’s degree in a related discipline is preferred for select roles.
- May require compliance with export control regulations.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies (unit, integration, system, regression).
- Knowledge of embedded systems, ECUs, and automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay).
- Familiarity with AUTOSAR platforms and validation environments.
- Experience with debugging and testing tools such as TRACE32, JTAG, CANoe, CANalyzer, and NI TestStand.
- Ability to design comprehensive test cases including edge cases and fault scenarios.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using structured methodologies.
- Understanding of system requirements engineering, verification, and validation processes.
- Ability to interpret technical data and apply statistical methods for decision-making.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage complexity, prioritize tasks, and deliver results effectively.
- Commitment to continuous learning and self-development.
- Strong documentation and reporting capabilities.
Experience
- 5-8 years of experienced candidate
- Exposure to automotive systems, test tools, or validation environments is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.
