Job description: Electromagnetics Design & Development
Location: Yelahanka, Bangalore
About The Gig
We are looking for a passionate
Electromagnetics Design Engineer to develop high-performance
traction motors for electric two-wheelers. The role involves designing and optimizing motor electromagnetic performance to achieve best-in-class
efficiency, torque density, and reliability.
What You’ll Do
- . Motor Dimension Fixing with respect to vehicle requirement.
- Working on Slot Pole combination finalisation as per requirement specification.
- Designing of stator, rotor yoke, optimise stator, rotor and magnet dimension with materials selection, its coating requirement, material availability, BOM and costing.
- Rotor design optimisation with respect to back EMF, cogging, harmonics, etc.
- Designing of winding pattern, speed-torque characteristics, efficiency mapping, etc.
- Extracting Phase advance angle data & providing to controller team.
- Knowledge on MTPA, MTPV and SPVWM, provide corresponding data to controller team.
- Simulation on ripple torque and optimising.
- Providing Ld, Lq data, 3D lookup table to controller team.
- Maximum torque optimisation, power & speed optimisation.
- Optimisation of base speed, thermal, demagnetisation and analyse vehicle drive cycle
- Expertise in software tools, motor CAD/manual calculation/Ansys Maxwell/Altair FLUX.
- Analysis and validation with FEA calculations in both 2D and 3D and optimization with equations and FEA on thermal and mechanical modelling (Multiphysics design).
- Electric machine analysis, design and optimization of BLDC, IM, PMSM (surface mount), IPM motors & new technologies.
- Providing Stator, Rotor, Copper, Magnet, Windage, Stray losses to thermal team at different operating conditions (steady and non-steady).
- Providing EM forces from motor to perform NVH simulation.
- Magnet material selection based on Br value, Coercive force, temperature, etc. and excellent understanding of inspection for the same.
- Selection of Insulation material, phase wires, lugs, rotor position and thermal sensor etc.
- Making documents, researching and implementing new ideas and patent application.
- Guiding testing team, design validation plan and homologation standards.
- Close cooperation with internal development teams, customers, and suppliers.
- Design, testing & validate performance of electric motor for current and future products.
- Ownership on design from concept, design, testing, validation and production release.
- Evaluate new technologies to improve power dense, efficient, low cost, and reliable.
- Sizing of electrical machines for 48V and other voltage EV traction motor applications.
- Benchmarking of electrical machines for electric vehicle applications.
- Share input for controller team from motor along with motor controller team.
- Failure analysis on development, manufacturing and assembly process.
What You Bring
- ME/M.Tech/Ph.D. in Electric machine & drives / Electrical machines &Electromagnetics.
- Experience in Motor design engineering field.
- Strong Knowledge in Electric machine sizing and design, simulation, and prototyping.
- Excellent capability in design and analysis of electric machines required.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D magnetic FEA analysis and understand engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in thermal and structural FEA preferred.
- Sound knowledge of e-machine control methods, implementation and test.
- Familiarity with power electronics and inverter hardware layout.
- Rotor position sensor selection, Implementation and Rare Earth/Ferrite Magnet selection.
- Basic understanding of Mechanical Design of Motors and Product specification knowledge.
- Benchmarking of Special Features for Cost and Performance Enhancement.
- Experience in performance and durability testing electric machines.
- Experience in electric machine manufacturing and development.
- Knowledge of Motor Testing and Global Electrical machine design standards.
- Adherence to time plan, excellent people skills and has a history of teamwork.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
