Job title: Electro-Mechanical Design Manager – LV & MV Switchgear / Switchboard Design (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
Location: VIP Road/Vesu, Surat, Gujarat | Job Type: In-person to Hybrid
Compensation: Competitive fixed salary, structured around your experience and the scope you will own.
About the role
RMR Innotech is hiring a Design Manager for low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) switchgear, switchboard, MCC, and power distribution equipment design. You will lead our SolidWorks and AutoCAD design team, own design quality and UL/IEEE compliance sign-off, and be the technical contact for International switchgear and switchboard manufacturers.
This role suits an electrical power distribution professional with 10+ years of experience who is ready to move from individual contributor to design leader, and who wants to shape how a fast-growing engineering services company works.
This role may suit you if your current title is: Senior Design Engineer, Lead Design Engineer, Assistant Manager or Deputy Manager (Design/Engineering), Engineering Lead, or Technical Lead in switchgear, switchboard, MCC, or power distribution equipment, at an OEM, panel builder, or engineering services firm.
What you'll do
Design Review, Compliance & Quality Control
- Review 3D assemblies, Client submittals, 2D layouts, and BOMs for switchgear, switchboards, MCCs, and panelboards, checking technical accuracy, manufacturability, and standards compliance.
- Act as the final sign-off before deliverables reach clients, and catch design and compliance issues before they become escalations.
- Run drawing review and markup cycles, including client markups (Bluebeam Revu is common), and track every comment to closure.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of SolidWorks and AutoCAD designers, review their work, and set the technical standard.
- Allocate projects, give structured technical feedback, and build the design standards, templates, and QC processes the team works to.
LV & MV Electro-Mechanical Design
- Apply the applicable industry standard for designing LV and MV equipment as per customer spec like busbar sizing, cable routing, electrical clearance and creepage, and enclosure design principles.
- Stay hands-on in SolidWorks and AutoCAD where needed. This is a technical leadership role, not management only.
Client Engagement
- Be the primary technical contact for client design queries, mainly North American switchgear and switchboard OEMs.
- Explain technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Documentation & Process
- Work with leadership on project timelines, resourcing, and client documentation packages.
- Keep design documentation accurate, traceable, and audit-ready.
- Help build the systems and standards that let the design function take on larger, more complex engagements.
What you bring (required)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical power distribution equipment design, covering switchgear, switchboards, MCCs, panelboards, and related assemblies.
- Experience on both low voltage and medium voltage scopes.
- Working knowledge of switchgear from major manufacturers such as Eaton (preferred), ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, and GE, including their construction styles, components, and typical configurations.
- Intermediate to advanced SolidWorks skills: assemblies, GA drawings, BOM generation, and large assembly management.
- Working proficiency in AutoCAD for 2D layouts, schematics, and drawing review.
- Working knowledge of these standards as applied to equipment design:
- LV: UL 67 (panelboards), UL 891 (switchboards), UL 845 (motor control centers), UL 489 (molded-case circuit breakers), UL 1558 (metal-enclosed LV power circuit breaker switchgear). IEC 61439 is a plus.
- MV: UL 347 (MV motor controllers and control centers), IEEE C37.20.2 (metal-clad switchgear), IEEE C37.20.3 (metal-enclosed interrupter switchgear).
- Prior experience reviewing or managing other designers or modelers.
- Comfort working with international clients and communicating technical decisions clearly.
- A strong ownership mentality: you catch problems before you're told about them.
Preferred
- Hands-on experience with Bluebeam Revu for markups and review workflows.
- Manufacturing-floor familiarity with switchgear assembly.
- Panel design experience for international markets or multiple compliance standards.
- Exposure to BOM or documentation automation (Excel, VBA, scripting).
- Prior team lead or QC lead experience in a CAD or engineering services setting.
- Experience with SolidWorks PDM or similar data management systems.
Who should apply
A senior switchgear or power distribution design professional who wants to lead a design team, enjoys being the technical anchor in client-facing work, and wants to shape a growing company's technical direction.
What we offer
- Competitive salary with strong opportunities for professional growth
- Ownership of design quality and technical standards at RMR Innotech
- Exposure to LV and MV power distribution projects for international clients
- A chance to shape a fast-expanding engineering services company
- A collaborative culture focused on precision, engineering, and execution excellence
