Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer – AIS/GIS Substation
Location: Bangalore
Experience Required: 5 to 12 years
Employment Type: Full-time / Hybrid
Role Summary:
The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for complete design and engineering of AIS/GIS substations in the 33 kV to 400 kV range. The role requires strong capability in both Primary and Secondary engineering, including preparation of design documents, equipment selection, protection and control engineering, earthing studies, and SCADA/HMI integration.
Primary Substation Engineering Responsibilities:
End-to-end design of AIS/GIS substations for 33 kV, 66 kV, 132 kV, 220 kV, and 400 kV systems.
Preparation of Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), General Arrangement drawings, equipment layout, and section drawings.
Selection and sizing of primary equipment including disconnectors, circuit breakers, CTs, VTs, transformers, and switchgear.
Preparation of cable routing, cable trench design, illumination layouts, Bill of Materials, and as-built documentation.
Coordination with civil, structural, and site engineering teams to address interface requirements for AIS/GIS substations.
Secondary (Protection and Control) Engineering Responsibilities:
Design of Control and Relay Panel (CRP) schemes.
Preparation of detailed wiring diagrams, schematic diagrams, and cable schedules.
CT/VT adequacy checks, fault calculations, and relay setting coordination.
Experience with ABB, GE, Siemens, or Hitachi relay families.
SCADA/HMI integration including IEC 60870-5-104, MicroSCADA SYS600, PRP, and substation automation system interfaces.
Earthing and Compliance Responsibilities:
Design of earthing grids for substations.
Preparation of earthing studies including Earth Potential Rise (EPR), touch and step potential calculations, and compliance reports.
Knowledge of national and international utility standards.
Experience with CDEGS software is preferred but not mandatory.
Tools and Software Requirements:
Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation for preparation of substation design deliverables.
Experience in EPLAN is an added advantage but not acceptable as the primary skillset.
Ability to produce complete drawing packages and coordinate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Utility Standards Experience:
Prior exposure to UK DNO or transmission utility projects such as National Grid.
Familiarity with 33 kV connection requirements, submissions, and compliance documentation.
Additional Notes:
Candidates with a background heavily focused only on control panel wiring or EPLAN drafting will not be considered.
Candidates must demonstrate experience specifically in AIS/GIS substation design and engineering.
