Certified Nursing Assistant Hiring Rate: $42,300.96 Annually

Medical Assistant Hiring Rate: $45,381.44 Annually

This is an in-person position and is not eligible for remote work. 
This position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm, subject to change.

Performs clinical and administrative duties on behalf of the Reproductive Health Clinic. Receives patients, gathers pertinent data, and prepares the patient for provider visit. Answers telephones, schedules clients, updates databases, maintains records, and provides general support. Reviews client histories, measures vital signs, collects laboratory specimens, maintains clinical area and equipment, assists providers, and facilitates the efficient provision of clinic services. Employment is subject to the terms, conditions, and policies detailed in the Personnel Policies Manual (PPM). This position requires regular in-person presence as an essential job function. This position may be dependent on variable funding sources, including categorical grants.
 
Medical Assistant:
Reviews client histories, measures vital signs, collects laboratory specimens, maintains clinical area and equipment, assists providers, and facilitates the efficient provision of clinic services.

Position Duties

  • Greets and screens clients for requested services. Assesses client needs, screens patients seeking enrollment into the program, and provides information or referrals. Schedules appointments, conducts reminder calls, and maintains calendars.
  • Obtains/prepares client paperwork and checks for completeness. Maintains documentation of services provided and ensures all medical records are complete, up-to-date, and conform to governing regulations. Enters data accurately and timely in accordance with program requirements.
  • Performs clinical services under the direction of an Advanced Practice Provider or Registered Nurse.
  • Prepares patients for examination and assists in the exam room. Reviews and verifies intake histories and measures vital signs. Assesses the presence or absence of health risk factors based on information presented and refers to Advanced Practice Providers and Registered Nurses as appropriate. Provides clients with medical supplies based on written orders. Cleans exam rooms and instruments, including speculums; packages instruments for sterilization in accordance with clinic policy.
  • Collects and labels specimens and performs laboratory tests; files, records, and secures lab work.
  • Maintains a record filing system. Utilizes Electronic Health Record (EHR) for appointments, documentation, and billing. Provides appropriate records for appointments, audits as needed. Responds to medical record requests in accordance with HIPAA standards.
  • Collects clinic fees and performs daily closeout of cash register/drawer per the department cash receipts policy, copies records when requested.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment, and medications; keeps examination rooms and pharmacy stocked and communicates supply needs. 
  • Participates in departmental emergency planning and response activities.
  • Promotes public health within the community.
  • Takes personal responsibility to provide exceptional customer service in order to promote and maintain a positive Public Health image, constructive working environment, and foster pride and professionalism in the workplace and community.
  • Performs other duties as required.
 
Medical Assistant:
  • Prepares, measures, and administers medications to clients in a clinical setting; counsels clients about various reproductive health topics and birth control and medications under the direction of an Advanced Practice Provider or Registered Nurse.
  • Explains examination procedures, prepares patients for examination, and assists in the exam room. Reviews and verifies intake histories and measures vital signs. Assesses the presence or absence of health risk factors based on information presented and refers to Advanced Practice Providers and Registered Nurses as appropriate. Provides clients with medical supplies based on written orders. Cleans exam rooms and instruments, including speculums; packages instruments for sterilization in accordance with clinic policy.
  • Develops and/or maintains a record filing system. Utilizes Electronic Health Record (EHR) for appointments, documentation, and billing. Provides appropriate records for appointments, audits as needed. Responds to medical record requests in accordance with HIPAA standards.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment, and medications; keeps examination rooms and pharmacy stocked and communicates supply needs. Conducts medication and supply inventory, noting discrepancies or inefficiencies. 
 
Supervision Exercised: This classification does not have supervisory authority and requires no supervision or direction of others.
   
Supervision Received: 
Receives intermittent supervision. This classification normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. Regular direction, guidance, and coaching from supervisor is expected. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Education
 
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bilingual fluency and proficiency in English and Spanish, including reading, writing, speaking, and translation.
Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Two years of experience as a certified nurse aide.
Medical Assistant:
  • Two years of experience as a registered medical assistant.
 
Licenses/Certificates
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CPR Certification.
Certified Nursing Assistant:
  • Must be a registered or certified nurse aide.
Medical Assistant:
  • Must be a registered or certified Medical Assistant.
 
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, drug screen, and physical examination. 

Other Qualifications

Duties are performed in a noisy environment with potential exposure to infections, blood, and contagious diseases. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Public Health employees are responsible for providing proof of vaccinations and/or tuberculosis testing as applicable to the specific position and must provide proof of completion of required vaccinations/testing or proof of initiation within sixty days of hire date.
